Why the Dokmaideng playground near Thatluang is abandoned?

This used to be called the paradise for Lao children. Nowaday, this playground is abandoned and there seems to be no project to put on to this area.

Do you want to see this playground back into the city?

This is a way that Lao authorities do business. They don't know how to count money.

While they let this be abandoned, they build the new one, the one is next to Talad Sao.

Why don't they let other business people do, I wonder?

When this playground was built? Was it built and or operated by private company or by government? Why it was abandoned? Didn't make enough money? Owner or operator went bankruptcy?
Maybe someone lived in Vientiane will give the answer.

i don't know if some of you guys believe in "superstition"? but... i do..

the area of this playground was built over an old pond...  i grew up not far from this pond and this area was my playground when i was a kid...  growing up i heard many stories about this pond, many people believe that there's "paya nark" living in there..    i guess the local government see it differently, they went ahead and bring in the dirt to fill up the pond..     built the playground over it...  not too long after it was open, there was an accidental death that slow down the park attendee.   after that, it was just slowly fade away..

i dont know when this picture was taken?  but... when i was in laos back in 2006.. i saw the park with similar loooks!!

SeeHarHed,

This playground is directly opposite Wat Nongbone, right? Did this neighbourhood & temple & Nongbone Road get their name from the pond (nong)?

It looked exactly like what is shown in the photographs when I was there in early August 2007.

I'd buy the land.

tear everything down.

Sell it to foreign companies, or since Laos is ran by Communist Conservative authoritarian figures, put it on "lease" for 100 years.... and allow 50k Chinese folks to live on it XD

Nongbone is different.. it is down the road.. it used to be alot of nong around, but now... are bunch of big houses..

What we are talking here is used to be... " nong sa pung len" that's the name of it...  anyone grew up in Village of Nongbone or Thatluang would know this name well..

Yes!!! you're correct that this playground is directly across from Wat Nongbon..  if you're looking at Thatluang stupa.. Wat Nongbone would be on your right and playground be on your left.

I am mad, and really mad at Google Earth, because eastern half of Vientiane is "blurred", otherwise I would have zoomed in and see this place from space.

You see what I mean?

I believe it is an agreement with the government to block out certain Governmental buildings.

I don't understand why this place had been attracted to tourists lately. It should be completely closed. Look terrible !
