I would not be surprised at all if south Korea and Singapore have a lot of oil like Dubai and Saudi Arabia or gold and diamond but these two countries don't have any and they became rich from their brain and good government.

Since our country is peaceful now, our goverment will focus on developing the country. Hopefully, Laos will catch up with our asian neighbors soon.

Yes, needless to say, everything depends on the head just like a train. If the head doesn't move, the train cannot move at all.

Talking about democracy, Singapore has been controlled by one party since it got independent. It could be the case this party has done very well for Singaporean people that is why this party can govern Singapore for so long.

What I like most from their system is that the boss is elected because he is smart and good for the job, he has a knowledge and can solve the problem, but not what he can drink beer with other people and do nothing like in our country.

But having said that, this practice now, probably, cannot be found already in our country, I don't know.

Thanks for the question raised and the conversation so far. It is really good to learn from the our Asian nations which were once used be poor like us.

For Cambodia, we used to be proud in 1960s. We were the pearl of Asia during that time. Singapore prime minister used to visit us and learn from us. 4 decades later, Singapore go ahead very fast - become one of the most prosperous countries in the WORLD while we (CAMBODIA) go nowhere but poorest.

Cambodia should learn from Singapore.
If our leaders now are not as good as we want, we need to do something. Do what?

Educate ourselves to be the most competent citizen (well-informed, financially strong...)
Do small small things we can do to help our country. E.g. take care of our environment, support our local products, respect the traffic law...etc
Stop criticizing our leaders and others. Appreciate and focus the good side, and do something we can do about.
Take the scholarships to study abroad (from the rich countries). Come back and use the practical knowledge to apply locally
We are Khmer. No-one help us like we do. So hand-in-hand, build up the country.
Make friends with others - especially our neighboring country.

Don't really know about Singaporean, but Koreans are very aggressive people. We Lao are too naive to compare to Korean. My daughter inlaw is Korean-American, I get to know and doing business with them alot, so I know first hand about them. I often heard people(Lao) said " Viet sue see", you don't know what sue see is until you met Korean.
