Is it really important to modernize Laos ?

While Laos takes pride in its past, glorifying landmarks like the tomb of French Indonesian explorer Henri Mouhot, many believe that it needs to modernize in order to compete and remain relevant in the global economy, however, some believe that Laos need to preserve its own uniqueness and values.

Do you want to see Laos as a modernize country and why ?

yes, laos need to modernize, but carefully. Laos should not importe everything that seems to be "modern" just because it's "modern".

Laos should import only what can be for sure an improvement for all lao people, find it's own way on many subjects, and reject everything that can cause more trouble than benefits. The difficulty is to make this analysis before decide anything.

Laos needs to seriously improve healthcare and emergency services, administration (tax management, online administration, fight corruption...), transportation system (train train train and a few better roads), and judiciary system.

But Laos have to strongly preserve it's identity (beautifull tradition, peacefull life and places, strong respect of family, friendly and helpfull people...) and natural ressources... and it's not easy to combine economical growth (necessary to improve the points above) and preservations of identity and nature.

I agree with the views that Laos (ourselve) should be modernized, because modernization symbolizes strong and rapid economic growth..

economic growth should not be the goal.

The goal should be to improve quality of life for people living in laos. Economic growth is just (can be just) a part of the way to reach this goal.

well, as nowaday, most of things are related directly or indirectly to Economy...  we conduct market-oriented economy,  if we dont have strong or firm foundation of economy, how can we improve livelihood  ...

economy also means the circulation of money also...

i don't find anything wrong with modernization as long as it benefits the people, that it makes life a little easier for the locals. the bottom line is, modernization should benefit most of the locals and not just the very select few.

In my opinion, the "glorifying of the past" only justifies the lack of progress the country has seen in years.

I mean its good to modernize, but its not that good.

Modernize enough for the people to get out of poverty, for a fair chance in life. That's a good leveling point. Harmony for the people, the society, and the country.
