Chinaman Chao Wei pledges to bring glamour to Lao side of Golden Triangle

(KPL) Chinese owned Dok Ngew Kham Group Co; Ltd wants to bring the world of glamour toTonpheung district, Bokeo province, which shares borders with Myanmar and Thailand, by making it one of the top international entertainment place in the world.

Three hundred people were at a groundbreaking ceremony in the entertainment centre, located in the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone and on this special occasion some of the people tested the casino by placing bets on the various gaming tables in Tonpheung district on 9 September.

Two distinguished persons were at this event, Deputy Prime Minister, Asang Laoly and President of Dok Ngew Kham Group Co. Ltd., Chao Wei.

Mr Ousavanh Thiengthepvongsa, advisor of the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone and Tourism-Services Development Project told KPL News last week that this Chinese company would invest US$2 billion to this total entertainment place.

He said that initially this company decided to invest only US$ 86 million to develop the entertainment cum casino place, tourism and service sectors on 827 hectares of land but it morphed to become a much bigger project with a total investment of US$2 billion on 3,000 hectares of land on a 50-year lease.

On completion of this giant project the whole complex would employ 5,000 workers and an estimated 300 domestic and foreign companies would be operating in this zone.

Presently, it has 20 new start-ups. Besides these, the zone has seven hotels and a total entertainment cum casino centre. According to Mr Chao Wei, on its completion in 2020, he would have a trade centre, a five star hotel, an entertainment centre, casino, bank, golf course, school, hospital, airport, harbour and a service centre.

? I pledge to change Tonpheung district to become one of the most romantic place in the world for people who want to relax, to game and to see its unique natural landscape? said Mr Chao.Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone, in Tonpheung district, Laos, is 56 kilometres from the centre of Bokeo province and its unique location is such that just in front of it and on one side is Xiengsen district, Chienglai province of Thailand and on the other is Thakhilek village, Myanmar.

i share your sentiments. Its good to develop Laos but the government should be careful in choosing the kind of development in Laos. I prefer to see development that will not compromise Lao culture, traditions, natural beauty and moral values. Casino's will only foster false hope, greed,  immorality. Lao is one of the countries in asia where even city people still hold up to their traditions (e.g. wearing of sinh, etc). There could be a lot of projects to do to develop the country than casinos. WHo do you think will benefit from this? Like the one in Luangnamtha. Who among you have been there? Did you see Laotians working in that Casino. I only saw Chinese people. Did it bring jobs to local Laotians in the border? I dont think so.

Because the chinese wants those Thai ladies and since Casino is illegal in Thailand. The closet to thailand is Laos obviously and yea I think it will only corrupt those innocent people into like those who have sex for money. And dealing with chinese u always have to think ahead of them because they will take advantage on alot of things.

Just to warn my Lao people read about other country what has happen to there own country and be worried about this in the future.

This is the Worst idea. They should have a survey before considering building it. Tonpheuang district is where the Ancient City of Souvannakhomkham located. Entertainment center will destroy the charm of these historical artefacts and the day to day life of the villagers.

The faults lied on both sides of the fence, because of the desperateness of Lao Government that made them to be vulnerable for the Chinese to prey on.

Interesting as I lived in China for 10 years and now I live in Laos

IF (and it is a big IF) the Lao government makes sure the Chinese pay
all their taxes and IF they have to employ say 75% Lao workers and train
them, and IF they make sure that this is not just gambling, prostitution,
money laundering (as the Chinese casinos are in Burma and elsewhere)
THEN, OK, it may help

But we have a Korean golf course project here in Luang Prabang where
the big hotel they are building and all the land they are taking is a worry....
it's pretty certain that prostitution, drugs etc. will increase...

Laos cannot forever be different from the rest of the world, but if the government is clever it will know how to manage this......the question is, do they understand
it??? I wish I knew....

Don't worry. Lao people are not allowed to go to the casino. Lao people can work there but not allowed to gamble or play casino.

well, you guys are so excited and crazily nationalism that you extremely distorded the simple world business to the national contradictory. i don't really care which country or nation investing in Laos, in my mind, there are no different countries inside me, i don't care it's China, Laos, Thailand...etc. Cultures and economy belong to all human, if it can help local people develop economy and improve their conditions of lives, then it is a good idea. I think casino is only a start and origin to drive the progress of the LGTSEZ in the future. Those Chinese investors are not gonna set it as the base Lao economic structure.

 R U sure about that?

If U think Lao pple can have a job there but can't gamble there, think again my man.

Savan Vegas for instance, Lao pple gambled there as well, only when the authority or inspector to come & check, then they stop gamble.

Since Savan Vegas open, there are more depressed for pple.   Lost jobs, homes, divorced, and more crimials act & thieves, thugs, vandalism etc.

My sister worked there as kitchen helper, she saw it all.

Bottom line is: Casino brings nothing good 4 the society.
