When you're in foreign land, the least you can do is respect the locals. These two crack heads tourist thinks they are so cool.
I understand that the government had print out little handbook for all tourists, the do's and dont.. Obviously, these two failed to respect the culture.
Can't really put the blame on tourists, they don't know?
There should have been guardrail around any areas that's not permit physical contact and place the signs of notification next to each statues then there's no worry about this problem.

I totally agree with you. We can't really blame on them if they don't know. A simple signboard with explanation and instruction would help. I still don't understand why there are no descriptions in tourist attractions. As a tourist, I would appreciate the place more if I know a story about it rather than just the physical appearance. For instance, Buddha Park in Vientiane, to many tourists, there are just concrete statues. But every character is actually derived from the legend, belief, etc.

I agree, that way Lao would be able to promote appreciation of Laos history, culture and tradition among tourists.

Can you just take it easy about this, think about this Lao is very HOT! in the summer and tourists wants to be comfortable and they re not inside the temple with the present of the real monks. For heaven sake that is a decorative statue for an out door land scape. People are taking this petty thing too way blown out of proportion. Lets drop this subject and use our energy to concern us with more big issues ok people.

One who passes an irrational judgment and used vulgar language to other people is not a real Buddhist and you gave a bad impression of Buddha's teaching. It is very shameful image for Lao people who are known to be nice and peaceful people in nature or not mmmm?

The reason why these farangs does not respect our culture and religion it is because the images of Buddha portrait in the West is not one with respect. I just saw a head of a Buddha in someone bathroom on TV. We see image Buddha on women Bikini. I can go on and on. But you get some idea.

Now this is different , there was an incident about roughly 9 yrs ago I saw Pea Pot clothing company came out with the design for maternity clothes with Buddha's face in the front of the dress a little bit above knee area that I saw on their model. Right away I picked up the phone and called Pea Pot store and get info from their manager so I can get in touch with the manufacturing company for that line of clothes to make my complain.
A gain it is not this girl's fault for wearing this because she did not know that it offending us as we're Buddhists. All we have to do is educate people about our religion in a civil manner instead of demeaning way.
