The number of road accidents in Vientiane has continued to grow on a monthly basis this year, with September's figure of 199 rising to 213 in October, according to Vientiane Traffic Police.
A Vientiane police spokesperson said yesterday, however, that the number of deaths had dropped from 18 in September to 15 in October, with 26 people seriously injured.
The 15 fatalities included victims aged between 20 and 67.
Figures for October showed that 88 women and 358 men were involved in accidents, with 189 reported as driving under the influence of alcohol.
During the Vientiane Boat Racing Festival from October 25 to 27 there were 35 accidents, with two deaths and 72 people injured.
During last year's boat race there were 51 accidents and two deaths.
October's accident report revealed that motorbikes were the vehicles most likely to be involved in an accident, with 103 motorbike-on-motorbike incidents recorded and 55 collisions between cars and motorbikes. Thirteen other incidents involved car-on-car collisions.
Most accidents occurred between 7pm and 9pm.
Of the nine districts in Vientiane, Sisattanak had the highest number of accidents with 50, followed by 46 in Sikhottabong, 44 in Xaysettha, 32 in Chanthabouly, 24 in Xaythany, eight in Naxaithong, seven in Hadxaifong, and two in Pakngum. None were recorded in Sangthong district.

I think Monk can rid the Moto or drive the car! the best way to solve the problem with lao accident the Lao Gov, should have law enforecement to all the people such as:.... thanks
A good way to make people understand the danger is to show photographs of accidents. If you have any photographs of road accidents in Laos please post them here. The more frightening and disgusting the better.

I notice many more people drink in Laos now that everyone is rich. I go to see some University students in the afternoon and they are all drinking lots of beer, drunk already. Drugs are dangerous and alcohol is the deadliest. The answer is simple. Don't drink. If you must abuse alcohol do it where women and children can't see you, and don't ever drive, not after one beer.
Don't ask the government to enforce the law and so forth. That's just asking the government to do what you should be doing by yourself. Set a good example for younger people, and everyone else who sees you.
Maybe they 'drink more' because they are richer but i don't think 'more people' drink - there has been a big problem with alcoholism in Laos for decades
