Laos set sights on winning 25 gold medals in Laos next 2 years !

Lao athletes break SEA Games records



Standing Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the 25 th SEA Games Organising Committee, Mr Somsavat Lengsavad, said at the National Football Stadium on Sunday that Laos would set new records in the 2009 games.

He was speaking at a ceremony to welcome back the Lao athletes who had been competing in the 24 th SEA Games in Thailand over the last two weeks.

The athletes have returned home with five gold, seven silver and 32 bronze medals, far exceeding their expectations.

“We're setting our sights on winning 25 gold medals at the 25 th SEA Games in Vientiane in 2009,” said Mr Somsavat.

He explained that it hadn't been easy for the athletes, as many had been competing against high-level professional athletes.

“The medallists have come from various provinces, which I hope will encourage the Lao National Sports Committee to search far and wide for the best athletes to compete at the games in 2009,” he said.

In this year's games Lao athletes competed in track-and-field, swimming, archery, badminton, billiards, snooker, bowling, boxing, football, golf, handball, judo, karatedo, rugby, sepak takraw, shooting, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, volleyball, wrestling, wushu, Muay Thai, pencak silat, petanque and a traditional boat race.

ฺ24th SEA games Laos got 5 Gold , 5 Silver , 32 Bronze Medals from many sports.

Boxing
- 1 Silver , 5 Bronze
Judo
- 2 Gold , 1 Silver , 3 Bronze
Karate
1 Bronze
Muay Thai
1 Gold , 3 Silver , 4 Bronze
Pencak Silat
1 Bronze
Petanque
2 Gold , 5 Bronze
Rugby
1 Bronze
Sepak Takraw
3 Bronze
Taekwondo
1 Silver , 5 Bronze
Wrestling
2 Bronze
Wushu
1 Silver , 2 Bronze

And Football biggest sport of The World, Laos team did it great too.

Men team lost in group stage but good score.
draw Singapore(Bronze) 0-0 and Lost Vietnam(4th) 1-2.
(Thailand Gold , Myanmar Silver)

Women team goto semi-final and got 4th. (Thailand Gold , Vietnam Silver , Myanmar Bronze)

25th SEA Games , 25Gold , Football Men and Women goto final it not dream.smile

Personally, if Laos don't get any other medal in the upcoming SEA Game but win gold in soccer, I will be totally elated.

What can I say, I'm a diehard soccer fanatic!
