(KPL) At least 5,780 people in Vientiane province were identified to abuse amphetamine, after finding amphetamine substance positive in their urine, quoted the Drug Control and Inspection Committee Office of Vientiane province. Amphetamine is a problem in society, which spread out among young people in Vientiane province, particularly teenagers who are studying in secondary schools and group of teenagers who have jobless.
According to Mr Amphon Kongphavong, Acting director of the Drug Control and Inspect Committee Office of Vientiane province, who disclosed last week that currently officials concerned have found a total amount of 5,780 amphetamine addicts throughout Vientiane province after testing their urine. Large group is men with a total number of 5,242 people.
He added that these people have been dispatched to the Drug Rehabilitation Centre for rehabilitating and equipping with professional skills.
He further stated that facing the outspread of amphetamine in Vientiane province, now the Drug Control and Inspection Committee Office of Vientiane province in collaboration with local authorities and education institute called for all students and workers to test urine. At the same time our team will disseminate lessons and raise awareness on harm amphetamine to local communities.
This year, the Drug Control and Inspection Committee Office of Vientiane province supported about US$200,000, receiving from international organisation to spend drug control.
Last year, the police was able to seize 7,666 amphetamine tablets, 10 kilograms of raw opium and 57 kilogrammes of cannabis.
