Can't believe Laos has such a case of commit suicide !
A man was found hanging in the kitchen of his home early on Saturday morning in Phonpapao village, Sisattanak district, Vientiane , a Vientiane Headquarters Police detective said yesterday.
“We still have many questions, because after speaking with those close to him, we have found that he seemed to have few problems, and he had a good family life,” said the detective, who did not want to be named.
According to the police report, the man left home on Friday evening to drink with friends. Later that night his wife called him to ask him to come home, but he continued drinking and socialising.
“One of his friends informed us that the man had visited his house, and asked to drink with him at around 2-3am. Although his wife called him again, he just seemed to be enjoying drinking and as far as we know nothing serious occurred,” explained the police.
When the man did return home, his wife was not concerned; she prepared some food for him and returned to bed.
“His wife rose early the next morning to find him hanging in the kitchen,” the detective said.
A ccording to the Head of the Mental Health Ward of Mahosot Hospital, Associate Professor Dr Sisouk Vongphachan, alcohol can increase a depressed person's suicidal tendencies.
“But in this case I don't believe the unfortunate man had any problems. But something caused him to feel pressurised,” he said.
“Some people drink a lot of alcohol and act a little crazy, which you can see any night on our streets,” he continued. “It is impossible, however, for a man to commit suicide without sufficient reason.”
According to the police report, there were four suicides in Vientiane last year, involving three men and one woman. The reasons for the deaths were given as problems with family and love.
This is the first case of suicide to occur in 2008, and police confirm they will investigate further to unearth the cause of the death as soon as possible.
“We are currently investigating the reasons behind the man's death, and can say no more to the press at this time, until we find clear evidence of the causes that led to his suicide,” said the detective.
I believe he killed himself because of depression. Depression is a MENTAL ILLNESS, if you don't get help or treatment it could lead to death. It happened everywhere in the world, not only in Lao.
