More than 20 sizzling musicians from Valentine Music entranced the audience at the Lao-ITECC stage on Thursday night to mark the company's five year anniversary on the Lao music scene.
The front of the stage was jam-packed with people from every section of Vientiane 's diverse community, as a steady stream of traffic continued to flow into the centre all evening.
“Tonight's concert marked our hard work over five years to produce good music of high quality,” said Valentine Music President Phoutthachanh Paphasala, also known as Bee.

“We are very proud of our achievements. Our company has prompted Lao people to turn their attention to local music instead of only listening to foreign music and now we can see the number of listeners growing every day, both in Laos and overseas.”
“The reason that Lao music has grown like this is because the government has allowed the production of songs in many different styles; this has encouraged more people to enter the music business.”
“Now we are recording not only modern songs, but we are set to record folk songs as well. We're including this genre in a project to create new artists, which we're now arranging; we will release the songs in the middle of the year,” said Bee.
He added that he was happy to see so many young people at Thursday's concert, all enjoying and supporting Lao singers to help promote the local music scene.
The concert kicked off with a new artist, Touly, which the company released to the public at the beginning of the year. She sang a selection of pop songs accompanied by her unique dancing style.
She was followed by other new artists singing modern and folk songs, also making their debut on stage, including Alak, Bing, Tom and Pew - all set to rock fans with new albums this year.
Other bands included Funny Girl, Easy, Boxer, Secret and Fee, who sang popular hits to delight the audience, featuring genres such as rock, pop, dance and hardcore, which had the audience up on their feet and dancing the night away.
The highlight of the event was the onstage appearance of all the company's artists to cut a cake together, promising fans they would continue with the production of more good music.
Valentine Music was established on February 14, 2003 - an inspiration of Mr Phoutthachanh and his friends, who enjoyed playing music together and wanted to promote Lao music and encourage young local artists.
