Good example of Lao nork

Mr. Fongher, the owner of Fongvimanh hotel in Vientiane, a laotian citizen who was borned in America and had worked there for more than 15 years, went to visit Laos and noticed many good oppotunities to do a business here.
He finally decided to come back to Laos and established his own hotel at Ban Phonpanao, Xaisettha district, Vientiane.
He revealed that the tourist industry in Laos tends to develop very fast. Doing business here is not that complicated and easier compare to America. The budget for doing a business here is not expensive and the Lao government provides a very good favorable conditions for all who want to invest.

Yes, very intersting story.

The topic speaks for itself. The more these kinds of people the faster Laos would be developped.

Cheers, wish him all the best.

Never do business with the communist country because law is no law over there. I won't take a risk and don't even want  to go back when the Lao communist still around. The question is WHY go back when we ran away from them 30 year ago. They can't be trusted.

FOREVER

If they ( Pourk Lao Nok) love to go back again and again, then they should had not ran away from them. They should had stayed with them  in the first place, help them to build the country when Laos was in terrible situation.

There is a thing called fear. My grandfather was put in a prison camp for some months, away from his family of nine. What government does that to its people? Why should the people come back to that?

My grandfather escaped from them thirty years ago. Its thirty years later, I have no fear of the government. The government has changed. That is why I am willing to accept what they're doing now. The old revolutionaries have died off, good riddance, and the new members of that party seem to know what they're doing.

What Mr. Fongher did is something I would like to do some day, but instead of a hotel, I rather do construction.

One advise for you my Son, go and hang yourself in shame.  You are a waste of space.  If you live in America then shoot yourself.

Laos needs reconciliation. It needs to repair the past. Telling someone to kill themselves is very stupid, just as telling someone to never do business in Laos is also very stupid. This debate just shows that Laos is still being influenced by the divisions of the past. This is the big issue for the country's future = reconciliation or continued division, walls or handshakes, investment or poverty, knowledge or stupidity. Arguments like the one above are just stupid.

A lot of us left Laos when we were little.  We dont know anything about Communism.  We just want, because of our parents.  Its a war going on.  When friends and neighbors and families fight each other, nobody wins.  My parents were not certian of the future.  Not because they hate Laos.

I was born in Laos and i still have connection to Laos.  I cannot speak for a foreign born Laos, if they have connection to Laos or not.  They should see for themselves, instead of criticized without seeing Laos for themselves.

See where your parents and grandparents was born.  If you dont care than you can critized.  Its like being a movie critic without see a movie.

Khamsane Phengvath went to Japan in early 1975 to study on a scholar-ship from the Japanese government. Six months later, he became a person without country and money after the Communists took over Laos and Japan cut off his scholarship. For years he went through the hard-ship of surviving on his own, finding jobs to earn his living and studying Japanese.

Khamsane told VOA by phone frrom  Japan that life was really tough at that time because of language barrier and the fact that foreigners were not easily accepted in the Japanese society but he made it, and years later when he managed to get into a university, he was lucky to meet an American who provided him a two-year scholarship. He majored in development and tourism.

Khamsane held many jobs before he could save enough money to take a chance at business, setting up an oriental grocery store that went bankrupt because his employees cheated him. Khamsane went back to working all sorts of jobs again. In 1999, he saw a newspaper ad for a Lao interpreter by JICA, Japan's International Cooperation Agency, and that was when his life took a turn for the better.

Since then Khamsane has been working as an interpreter for JICA and many Japanese NGO's, a job he is very happy with because it gives him an opportunity to carry out his ideology, that is to help his home-land in any way he can in its national development efforts. He has gone back to Laos many times with JICA as well as NGO groups, including a trip to northern Laos with an NGO that was providing job training to rural people. Khamsane said, as an interpreter, he had advised the people he worked for as to how to best provide assistance to Laos.

He says job training is most important, adding that Lao people should be trained to do every thing by themselves so that they can become self-sufficient and stop asking for and being dependent on foreign assistance because, he says, if Laos continues to do that it will remain a begger forever.
In his undying love for his motherland, Khamsane has also been trying to promote it to the Japanese people. He has participated in cultural events where he talks about Laos, its people, culture and traditions.

In 2001, he accompanied a group of Japanese TV stars on a month-long homestay in Luang Prabang. In 2007, he led a group of Lao students on a TV show to introduce Laos to the audience. Khamsane is the official interpreter for seminars, conferences and training involving Lao delegations. In this capacity, he has met many high-ranking Lao officials, including former Laos' Parliament speaker Samanh Vignaket.

He has set up a website called SabaideeLaos. com where he posts articles about Laos in Japanese. He also plans to post articles in Lao for Lao people to read about Japan. Khamsane who is now a naturalized Japanese says Lao people should know about his adopted country, because Japan is a major aid donor to Laos, providing assistance in many areas including comprehensive rural development, legal laws and others.

SeeHarHed,

Everyone might be 18 years old and over but it does not mean they think in a mature, logical, and constructive way.

The series of youtube video posted by one sick in the mind individual hiding behind a computer is a fine example of my point. Also posting in a CAP letter is annoying as hell.

Yes, I absolutely agree with you. Lao people now need to look for the good future of Laos.

I wonder why some Lao-foreign people living in other countries still keep thinking unfriendly to Laos as if they still live in 20 years ago. Now it is 21 century, the century of cooperation.

The cold war was over 20 years. Now Laos has changed a lot in both politic and economic. Situation has improved compared with past time uncountedly.

Probably, those Lao people who have left Laos still think that situation in Laos is still the same with when they left Laos where people were in bad situation.

Yes, that could be the case.
On the one hand, some western media are bias, informing nothing good about Laos.

On the other hand, they have never been in Laos for last few years after Lao government changed it policy which based on capitalism market and open Laos to the world. Lao government now invites businessmen from every corner of the world to do business in Laos. Now Laos has law business guaranteed fair and benefit to all business people regardless of their race and nationality. Now in Laos lots of projects are being carried out by foreigners from many countries.

And the story in this topic speaks loudly for itself, no doubt.

Regards,
