Ministry of culture ban the advertisement of beerlao in 2009 SEA GAMEs
Permalink

Do you think this is a good idea ?

According to the rules and regulation of the Ministry of Culture and Information, the 2009 SEA Games in Vientiane will not
allow to advertise any kinds of alcoholic drinks in the main stadium and sport fields. However, since Beerlao is the main sponsor for this event, the indirect advertisement such as putting the beer logo in the Pumphlet, posters and alike will be possible. In the main stadium, the other product of beerlao such as the pure drinking water (Tiger head) will allow to be used.

Item end.

This is not a good idea to ban beer lao in SEA games 2009 because this is only the best chance to promote Lao product to foreign eyes and this is only the chance for the first step to make Lao product become a global wellknown brand like Redbull of Thailand. Even though beer lao was banned, it does not effective to stop Lao people drinking alcoholic drinks.

Its kinda shocking to know a government owned industry is banned... by the government lol! At least, I remember LBC being owned partly by the government.

In any other case, I would applaud the ban. But I agree with the last poster, it would definitely help Lao products get out there more if Beer Lao were advertise. I mean lets be honest, what OTHER product could Laos advertise?

I think it is an Intrnational sport committee's rule to ban alcoholic advertisement in sport competition and sport stadium or arena.

What is the point to ban beer lao advertisement? Do you think only ban beer lao advertisement can make lao people unknown about beerlao and stop Lao people drinking alcoholic drinks? What happen if Lao hosts Tiger cup in the future? Is it good idea to advertise foreign Tiger beer but ban Local beerlao?
So this means the point to ban beer only don't want to promote or support beer lao to foreign people and only don't want foreigners to know about beerlao, is it right? If this is the point, this idea is absolutely not good. Beer and lao culture is something connected. When we have party, we drink beer so it is not like drugs. Why we ban the advertisement of beer lao?

But how come the FIFA allowed Beer advertised in World Cup 1994 and 1998 during the commercial. They advertised HeineKen and Buds.

Response to the statement above:
If it is an international sport commitee's rule, why Tiger cup advertise Tiger beer along or inside the stadium? If Tiger beer can advertise, why Beer lao can not?

It's not that bad. The advertisement of Beer Lao would be banned in the main stadium and sport field only and that not only Beer Lao though, but all kinds of alcoholic drinks.

I support this idea. Yes, I am glad to hear from someone that the advertisements of alcohol and cigarette are banned everywhere, why not in Laos. This would only improve Lao image in the world arena.

Some concern about this topic for fear that foreigners will not know Beer Lao. But I don't think so. The advertisements can be put everywhere, except the stated mentioned place, as long as they pay tax for advertisement.

So, I think, we don't need to be panic.

Regards,
...

If Beer lao is only not allowed to advertised in the stadium but allowed to advertised outside the stadium such as bus station and so on, and so how foreigners living in their own countries can see Beer lao advertisement on TV while sport competition is going on? This means only foreigners who go to Laos can see and know Beer lao and this exists already even todays before the SEA games will be host. So what is the special point that we can advertise Beer lao to become wellknown more than what we have already done today.
So ban beer lao is still not a good idea.

Think about who are the main sponsors for Sea Game in Laos?

If the ministry of culture does want Beerlao to be advertised in the Sea Game, the ministry should support atleast 40millionBaht for this game.  Maybe give the money back to Beerlao. That's life!!!

Is there any company that only giving money to others without hope!

You can not get anything for nothing!!!

All the best

Anybody who walks around the streets in Vientiane will see plenty of BeerLao advertisements, it doesn't need to be in the stadium. Even when it's broadcaster, there's bound to be ads in shots here and there.

You are so righton about this topic is so ridiculous it's out of control every time I see Lao on INTERNET  there's always beer ads/commercials. Pretty soon Lao will be known as a drunken country instead of they're  known as country of peace.
