its called development, i dont understand y ppl dont want to c our city become industralized like otheres, its ok to have it crowded as long as it looks nice. i think, is that temple next to taut luang finished yett? i rember visiting a couple years back and it looked like it was still under construction and when was this picture taken. these picture are great by the way. keep em coming!! but to me i personally believe buildings being built around there is a good thing it may not look as beutiful as before but i rather see development. my 2 cents cheers to laos

It is not against industrialization or progress. It was a remark that there should be some room around the temple. By looking at That Luang now, it look like there are house right next to the wall of That Luang.
So what if there is? Are you going to force them out? Mind you, if that was your relatives living there, you'd be pissed if someone forced them out of their own home.

Just making a indirect comment on bad zoning and planning.
those who are too close to thatluang wall have to be evacuated for sure, the authority concerned is waiting for fund to enlarge the great stupa area...
It looks overcrowded around That Luang, but don't worry, that's just an effect from the photo. This place remain beautifull and peacefull!
But the big problem with a too "dense" city is trafic jams. This is becoming a real problem for Vientiane, as in any big city in the world. There are many things to do to limit the growth of cars in Vientiane.. It's both responsability of government (by developing and promoting public transportations, buiding free parking at convenient places and make parking forbiden or expensive where it's a problem), and of lao people by choosing the convenient vehicle (a big pick up to carry a single person in the city is cleary not a clever solution because it pollutes a lot and need lot of place, that cause trafic jams)
It looks like the houses are randomly built. I agree with the bad planning. An important landmark like That Luang should not be next to residential areas. Don't mind if they are nice houses but these houses are ugly.

Don't worry those houses behind and around Thatluang stupa will be move in the next few year .
It's kind of sad, because when I visited Laos, I chatted with alot of European and American tourists, and their reason for coming to Laos is to "escape into the great outdoors". Everyone form cities don't want to see more cities but more nature!!!! Like escaping into tropical pradise or tropical island you know?

They can go to countryside. There are lots of natures in Laos. I think they would not be stupid, probably.
its not crowded as you think, if you get to see that luang in person!! Its divided by roads and grass line all around that luang, actually its very beautiful!!! The pictures just made it look crowded thats all!! What an awesome view indeed!!
