Lao new year is fast approaching upon us once again. I have been very fortunate to be chosen as an official photographer to capture the most memorable moment to share with all Lao people around the world to see.
The Lao people in Sydney, Australia is still following our wonderful Lao tradition which has been carried on many generations. . As you can see on the photos below, the Lao tradition is alive and kicking.
The event was held on 15/3/08, everything went smoothly. I would like to say thank you to the Lao community in Sydney for organising this wonderful event and thank you to all people involved for making this event a successful one. A very special thanks to all contestants for their effort and valuable time, their parents, relatives and friends for there love and support.
Before these girls and guys get up on stage, they have been preparing and practicing numerous of times to make things go smoothly, as a proud Laotian children born in overseas, one of the requirements is for them to be able to speak Lao language well, knowing how to pay respect the monks and elderly.
Having the Lao style hair done, wearing Lao jewelleries, costumes and able to dance lum vong, talking in Lao language confidently infront a crowd over 500 something people is a tough job to do. For most of the Lao people living abroad, these things are not an everyday thing for them. It's great for them to get back to their roots, mix with the community, getting to know more people, making new friends, etc. This experience will remain with them for the rest of their lives.
I don't know it would be appropriate or not. I think it would be great if every year our Lao overseas people can send their Misses to compete in Luang Prabang " Nang Sang Khanh" in Pee May Lao celebration, say from Australia, France, USA, Canada and so on.
That would really help Laos to promote its tourism industries and unite Lao people, although probably, it may be far from feasibility.
