Currently, Sekong is a poorest province in Laos. However, given its potential menerals sources, it would no long the poorest soon. People will get new jobs and no doubt their lives would be improved.

I seriously doubt that.
Just because (IF) there will be a mining there doesn't mean people are or will be better off.

Exactly, I agree with your word, lanxang. I think is better of the G-verment not the poeple, they might be driving a new BMW, but not for the poeple who is really hard labour and not having a better hook up with a better job. For you to get a better job in laos, I believe you have to be a big shot or big connection to the G-verment Ministry. Otherwise, your arse is out of luck, I guess you have gone to school just for nothing to get a better job. its not for what you know is for who you know.
The Mining field is belong to the whole country not just only for one person. If the laos G-ment going to do any concession please be more careful to the consequence. What is going to happen to the enviroment, it might bring out more damage to the beautiful nature.
Yes, no doubt when we people have less knowledges or low education, we fear of eveything. Why don't we think in other countries they can do why not in Laos.
In other countries their meneral sources (oil, gas, gold, copper and so on) have been using for the sake of their people' prosperity. No wonder they are developped. They can do friendly to environment.
If we have meneral sources, but we do not use them. That would be useless.
I remember last time some Western media criticized Lao people in their cartoons, showing that we were the kind of beggers sitting on the big piece of gold, meant Lao people were so stupid.
That is really true. We are afraid of doing everything. We are stupid we don't know how to do.
However clever can do everything and get a geat success. Why you guy not think smart and do smart?
