ASEAN students pick Singapore as top place to work
Singapore - Singapore emerged as the top place to work and play among university students in the Association of South-East Asian Nations grouping, a survey said Wednesday. More than half of the 2,170 undergraduates polled, or 54.3 per cent, said they would "most like to work" in Singapore among the 10 ASEAN nations.
Malaysia was a distant second with 11.2 per cent, followed by Brunei at 8.3 per cent, Thailand at 7.1 per cent, Vietnam at 4.7 per cent and Indonesia at 2.5 per cent, according to findings published in The Straits Times.
The Philippines was in seventh place at 2.1 per cent. Laos garnered only 1.1 per cent, followed by Myanmar at 0.7 per cent and Cambodia at 0.4 per cent. The region-wide survey, supported by the ASEAN Foundation, also found Singapore as the top choice for holidays, picked by 35 per cent of respondents. Thailand was a second at 20.9 per cent, and Malaysia followed with 13.9 per cent.
The study's co-authors, Assistant Professor Eric Thompson of the National University of Singapore and Chulanee Thianthai of Chulalongkorn University, said that destinations picked by students are different from those preferred by international tourists.
While tourists prefer Cambodia's Angkor Wat and Indonesia's Borobudur, Thompson told The Straits Times that ASEAN students "want to see modernity" more than ancient ruins.
i would say those are the already developed countrys vs the developing countrys offcourse they would pick those countrys because they are the most modern. this article isnt say anything else, dont worry laos is under construction.
Laos is not at the bottom man, Cambodia is at the bottom. Laos is above Mynma and Cambodia. In fact, Laos is on the way of improvement. You see, in the past few year, every thing (in Southeast Asia) Laos was at the bottom of the schedule, like footbal, work..... but now you see, Laos is up from those two countries. last SEA gam at thailand, Laos was above those two countries two.
Keep working, but no need to be too worry all the time, but take some to enjoy your life with your friends, your families.
Finally, the happiness is what people want the most, so if higher level of development lead to lower happiness ( like we can see at the most of developed countries now), it means that is not real development. because in developed countries, people live a lone, because they do not time for each other. They feel lonely and seriously all the time.
Therefore, do not just enjoy with the statistics, if it take a way your happiness.
Now I live in Japan where is the best example of what I said, people here I have only mobile for their best friends. just imagine.
Yes, money is important even though it is not the most important one. With money, one can find happiness. Without money none can be happy. Money can buy happiness more or less.
One can find happiness working and living in Laos because the cost of living is low and no high crimes. I would rather work and live in Laos than in Singapore or Thailand. I think Laos is peaceful and safer than other Southeast Asian countries. But, not less corruption than other countries.
