I understand some Isan people dont want to be part of Lao. But that is fine. It still does not change the fact that they are Lao. Lao American, they are still Lao. But Americian citizen. Just like Isan, they are Lao, but Thai citizen.
I know Lao is poor and they(Isan) dont want to be Lao. Thailand is richer than Lao. Just like a black man forget that he is black, because he live in a rich white neightborhood. It doest not change his color. The white people still see the color of his skin. Just like Isan, Thai Bangkok still see the color of the Isan race. Lao!

I used to live in Atlanta, black men live in rich black neigborhood, the other black people see them as white wanna be. poor black critized black live in rich black neighborhood. they being critized regardless if they poor or rich. that same thing happen to lao people. always jealeous and envy each other. and always try to being each other down. Isaan people belong to Thailand now. It's history. What about the time being now. New generation Hmongs in America, they don't consider themselves as Lao. They say they are from China or Mongoly. One of these days guys. They will want some land (piece of Lao land) and declare themselves Hmong country, Hmong people, Everybody has to learn Hmong language, speak Hmong, Hmong, Hmong, Hmong everywhere. Remember Vang Pao & his gangs tried to do exactly 1 year ago. But U.S. Gov. was not on their side this time. So, we have to know who is friend, who is enemy now.
I'm happy that I was born in Laos and I love Laos, even there's something that I don't like. Lao, Thai, American, Canadian, Cambodian,........ we're human, we have mouth, nose, eyes, heart, thinking and many many things the same, call it the same thing, use it in the same way. I dont' understad why do people have to hate or think that people will be bad or good or poor or reach by just looking outside. That's not fair, sometime people who poor but they have a richer heart than people who are rich. We're human and finally we'll died like human, even we live in different part of the world
