No where better than our motherland!

A young illegal migrant from Laos surprised Chana Songkhram police when he asked them to arrest him, so he could return to his homeland. The 15-year-old migrant, identified only as Lae, said he came from Champassak province, in southern Laos.

He had run away from home and slipped into Thailand over the Thai-Laos border in Ubon Ratchathani, to find a job. He has no identity documents.
The migrant, who turned himself in to police five days ago, said he was forced to work hard, for little reward.
''My friends returned home with so much money and I wanted to do the same. But now I have changed my mind
. I'd be better off at home. I don't want money any more,'' Lae said, as he stared at the police station floor. He occasionally shook his wrists to relieve the pain of his handcuffs.

''I miss my mother. I can no longer work here. Construction work is so hard. I want to go home and grow rice like before,'' he said.
He walked into the police station and surprised officers by saying: ''Catch me please. I want to go home.''

He said a job broker contacted him two months ago, asking if he wanted to work in Thailand. He paid the broker 4,500 baht.
Once on Thai soil, he was transported on a truck to a pig farm in Chon Buri province.
The work was tough, and the pay meagre _ slightly more than 100 baht a day. Lae worked at the farm for 28 days and ran away.
A Thai friend persuaded him to work at a construction site in Pattaya. That work was even harder, and the pay little better.

He worked there less than a month, then went to Bangkok.
Having no idea where to go, he headed to Sanam Luang. He wandered aimlessly at Sanam Luang and the nearby Khao San area. He collected scraps to make a living as his savings ran out after only a few days.

Hungry and homesick, he approached a police officer at a police booth. He told the boy to give himself up at a police station. He would be treated as an illegal migrant, which would enable him to go home without having to pay a fare.
Lae turned himself in at Chana Songkhram police station on Saturday. He told police: ''I am an alien. Please arrest me. I want to go home.'' He was taken to a detention cell, where he waited to be sent to immigration police, pending deportation.

Accompanying him to immigration police yesterday morning were six illegal migrants from Laos, Cambodia and Burma.

Lae said a post-graduate student from ThammasatUniversity doing research on people without ID documents in Thailand had passed on word to his family that Lae was on his way home.

Lae said he wanted to be arrested in Bangkok rather than caught by immigration police while on his way home or at the border.
An immigration police officer said Lae would be sent back through the border pass where he entered Thailand, and would be punished in his home country

Its a nice story, but I don't think he wanted to go home because... he wanted to... but because he couldn't make a satisfactory living in Thailand.

his ass was broke why was he wanted to go back home and do farming but I do give the credit trying tho. Or maybe he is smart than one thought he could've sent all of his earning back home then get a free ride home on Thai expense, going for free why not.

people do alot of crazy things in life for $$$$..  maybe that boy got talked into of going away and make some $$..  at the age, he probably wants a cell phone, nice shoes, and clothes...   and maybe the parents aren't able to give him all those items.

Well, one can interpret this story accordingly their own experiences and every option could be true. Having said that, I think this boy was in dark world, did not how to do when he had no money to buy something to eat.

Normally, people would try by all means to avoid being caught, but the case of this guy was otherwise. It could be the case that being in jail was the best option for him, hoping that he could get free transpotation back home or at least having something to eat. Yes, when you are not in your home, even water you need to buy, no doubt. But even for that he also has to pay with expensive price. Jail is a real hell, which is no need to describe.

No doubt, this will be chalked up to his experience, and probably he will remember this forever that there is no free lunch on earth.

I only hope that he might realize sometimes when he sits in jail that only education can help him to gain everything.

Yes, it's true that nowhere better than our homeland.

Going back to Laos to do farmer job is best choice for him.

Everything may happen. Other people can get lots of many, but his fate is not the case.  No doubt some people may laugh on him, but not his parents. On the contrary his parents definitely would feel sympathized him for that.

I do believe he would be brave enough to tell his parents that he will work hard on his farm land. If he work as hard as he did in Thailand, he would be a rich man.

Yes, given current food crisis, sooner or later his dream would come true. Grow rice, raise cows and sell them! To buy the cell phone would not be a problem anymore, I guess.
