The government has announced it will grant 15-day visa exemptions for tourists and investors visiting Laos from the Republic of Korea , according to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Prime Minister Bouasone Bouphavanh informed Korean Prime Minister Mr Han Seung Soo about the visa exemption during his official visit to South Korea from June 18 to 20.
The Lao PM also proposed direct flights between the two countries as another way to facilitate tourism and investment.
According to the ministry, Mr Han Seung Soo said the visa exemption would encourage more tourists to Laos to promote social and economic development.
He suggested the first steps towards direct flights should be discussed by technical officials from both countries.
The two prime ministers reviewed their close relationship and reaffirmed their support for each other in international matters, especially issues related to Asean and the United Nations.
The two sides agreed to seek ways to enhance their cooperation, especially from 2009 to 2012, when Laos will act as Asean's coordinator with Korea , which is an Asean dialogue partner.
The PMs jointly supported efforts to make the Korean peninsula free of nuclear weapons and build peace in the area.
Mr Han Seung Soo said trade and investment between Laos and the Republic of Korea had continually increased since diplomatic relations began in 1995.
Korean companies have invested in the Lao energy sector, in natural resources and construction projects.
Mr Bouasone said the government had encouraged foreign investment in mining, hydropower, tourism and other sectors and wanted to attract more Korean investors.
During the visit, the Lao PM also visited Korean President Lee Myung-bak and met with more than 20 Korean companies considering investing in Laos .
Mr Bouasone visited Seoul and Pusan (Busan), as well as other industrial cities.
Mr Bouasone invited M r Han Seung Soo and his wife to visit Laos in the future.
The Lao delegation returned to Vientiane on June 21.
The visit was in response to an invitation from Mr Han Seung Soo.
I don't think Lao Airlines has a long distant airplane to fly to South Korea. How can Lao Airlines will fly a direct flight from Laos to South Korea? And does it has enough passengers to go to South Korea?
Yes, more direct flights are better for us ..so we dont have to stay over night in BKK. direct flights mean Korean Airline coming to Laos ...not Lao airline going to Korea .....Hopefully, soon there's a direct flight from Japan to Laos also ...Make my travel easier and faster ...with only 4hrs overlay and then to Laos....that's a good news . !!!
