It's sad to know that only 4 athletes to go to Beijing Olympic, and the IOC has to pay for the laotian, it reflected for us to see how dirty poor Lao it is , it could not afford to pay for its own people.

Spend a lot of budjets for SEA GAMES, but don't want to spend any money for Olympic. Better cancel the SEA GAMES and use money for other purposes. Many poor families in remote Lao are waiting for those money

Even with 4 athletes is still good. BUT relying on a charity for a track suit and plane tickets to get there is really pitiful. Lao government can do better than that.

Lao athletes will probably be the smallest atlete team in the Olympic Game opening and closing parades in Beijing stadium.

lao government does the best, they can.
don't remember of any lao olympic team before 1975.

NO need to be shock!! 4 is better than nothing ...and not many lao athletes qualified for the olympic...these 4 are there just to represent laos and to put Laos on the Map ....

Just it is back then as it is now. NO MONEY.

Laos can't do crap without somebody from some other countries helping, financing it or looking over the shoulder.

That is how it will always going to be.

If Lao team need to go to America, Greece or other far away countries for Olympic, i would not complaint at all. But, China, our neighboring country, and very closed to Laos. we can go there by bus, why don't spend some money to support them? confused

Will you support them if they all goin by bus ..whether to compete or not? I guess alot of people don't know that ...there are only 4 athletes that barely make the olympic ...they're going there just to put Laos on the map ...listen to RFA ...intervewing Lao government....

I am surprised by the fact that some people did not want to hear that Laos would rely on IOC grant to pay for tracksuits and flight tickets to Olympic Games in China.

Well, we have no other alternative.
On the one hand, who don't know that Laos is a poor country?

On the other hand, if there is a grant for poor countries why should we pay?
On top of that, Laos is not only the country that relies on the grant, lots other countries also do so.

Please remember !:

When we are poor, we have to accept that we are poor.
Pretending that we are rich as much as other rich people does not make sense at all, but makes us poorer, no doubt.

we ought to fastend our mind to other orientations, we are not ready yet for supporting any kind of sport as we all are aware of this fact ! petanque, Teakwandoo, table tennis, wushu what more ?

All they have to do is sell 1 LEXUS that lao officials drive than we can send 10 guys over and still have some money left over for them to spend .

How many are going this year to the UK olympics? Rich or poor, the games aren't about money or how much you win, I think as long as you show up and try, it's telling the world that we're at least here and want to be a part of something great in this world.

Is there "ga dok" in the olympics? How about gambling, is that even a sport, perhaps beerlao drinking, those are the only sports lao people are good at, haha.
