Soochow University to build a branch in Vientiane

(KPL) According to a spokesman of the Representative Office of Soochow Chinese University in Laos the International University Construction Project would use up to 100 ha.

Mr Wang JieXian, Director, Representative Office of Soochow University in Laos told KPL news last Friday that when it is fully operational it would have a total student population of 10,000 students. Having a plan to construct new international university in Vientiane that are able to accommodate more than 10,000 students.

“This international university would have a stadium, library, laboratories, park, swimming pool, meeting rooms and other facilities, added the spokesman.”

He also said that the university is now waiting for the green light from the Lao government. A proposal had been submitted some months ago, said Mr Wang.
“We are worried that the That Luang Swamp may not be spacious enough to build a university of the size that we envisage – bigger than any university in Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and Burma,“ stressed the spokesman.

He added that over the past years the Lao people have spent a lot of money to go overseas to study and so Laos lost much foreign exchange. This Chinese university, he added would recruit Lao students and they would be spending their money in Laos.

yess this sounds like great great news, now what do the chinese want in return? hmmmm...... but if this was going to happen with laos having one of the biggeest universitties in south east asia would benefit laos multiple times over.

education is definatly the correct rout to take to lift laos to a new great era, if this goes through vientien city will grow bigger because of the university laos students will have better opporntunity and a wider range of education. awsome newss

Invest in education, you will always get a green light from Lao government, and the benefit is everlasting !

If possible, I want them to have new name and make it sound more Lao university.

What do you mean? Are you saying it's going to be named in Chinese? Hell NO!
It's has to be name in our Lao language like you said Lao or Laotian University.biggrin

now we can see the possibilty of benefits from That Luand project, and if they build that university, that project is worth doing. now they are afraid the space may not enough for the university.

I think Laos desperately needs more schools, university so on,. this is great news, because Lao students will have place to study, and then Lao will be developedbiggrin

Ofcourse if it is the biggest university in ASEAN, then it need to provide all languages for students, as options, to learn as many language as possible, such as Lao, Chinese, Japanese, Germany, Vietnam, Italian, Spanish, Russia and English.

chinese are very smart. Firstly, they are going to show Lao people and government that now, the education is the most important of all, the government definately give them a green light. Second, they will build  ...something...

Very good news for our children to have such a big university
we look forward to see  Many smart teachers and professors import to Laos in the future~~~

This is a great news. I hope Laos Gov. makes a good choice to push our people and future generation to a higher level of education. At least this will set standards for the Lao people as a whole and for the country in the region.
