Lao military delegation visits Vietnam

(KPL) � A delegation from the Education and Training Board of the General Political Department of Lao People�s Army is on a visit to Vietnam to exchange experiences in the training work.
During its six-day stay, which began on August 18, Lao guests worked with their colleagues from the Vietnam People�s Army and the High Commands of the Military Zone 3 and Quyet Thang Corps.
The delegation also paid a floral tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at his mausoleum and visited the Military History Museum.

China to help develop Lao space technology

(KPL) China will help Laos develop a satellite �based communication system under an agreement signed on Friday.
Covered under the agreement is the development of a Lao telecommunications satellite and ground station programme, and operational training for Lao staff, according to a press release from the National Authority for Science and Technology.
Minister to the Prime Minister�s Office and National Authority for Science and Technology Head, Professor Dr Bountiem Phissamay, last week signed the science and space technology cooperation framework agreement.
The agreement was brought from Beijing to Vientiane and had already been signed by China�s National Space Administration Head, Mr Sun Laiyan.
The Chinese will exchange technical information with Laos in the fields of earth observation, remote sensing satellite technology and the application of remote sensing data.
The two authorities will also cooperate to exchange information about satellite imaging and develop a programme to read data from satellite images.The agreement was made possible after discussions between officials from the two organizations and reflects the fruitful relationship of the two governments.
the Lao government believes developing the country�s expertise in science and space technology will be beneficial for the country�s socio-economic development.
According to the press release, it will assist progress in telecommunications, long distance transmission of audio visual material and can also be used for national land surveys.
The signing ceremony took place in Vientiane and was attended by high �ranking Lao official, Chinese official and diplomats.

PM receives Vietnamese Defense Ministry delegation

(KPL) Mr. Bouasone Bouphavanh, Prime Minister of the Lao PDR met yesterday at his office the high pm-f.gifranking delegation of Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense led by its deputy minister Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Duoc.
The Vietnamese delegation arrived here on 25 August for a weeklong visit to Laos and will attend the 13th annual meeting of the Laos-Vietnam Special Task Force Committees.
At the talks, PM Bouasone expressed congratulations and highly valued the visit to Laos of the delegation as a big contribution to further strengthen the special solidarity, friendly relations and comprehensive co-operation between Laos and Vietnam as well as between the army of the two countries.
On this occasion, Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Duoc expressed thanks to PM Bouasone for his warm welcome and briefed him about the activities of his delegation, particularly the results of the meeting between his delegation and Lao counterpart.

Training course for Lao Party officials opens

A training course on political theory for officials of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party opened at the Ho Chi Minh National Politics and Administration Academy in Hanoi on August 18.

Hanoi (VNA) – Speaking at the opening ceremony, deputy director of the national academy, Dr Vu Dinh Hoe, said that the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party consider personnel training a key factor in the past struggles for national independence as well as in the current process of both countries’ industrialisation and modernisation.

During the five-month course, which is held within the cooperation agreement between two countries, 20 Lao Party officials will study the key contents of Maxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh’s Thoughts on national independence and socialism.

They will also be updated on current major trends in the world and the Communist Party of Vietnam’s experiences in national renewal cause.
