(KPL) Ban Nalae village in Say district, Oudomsay province is now an avian influenza zone because of the detection of the outbreak of the deadly H5N1 disease in this locality.
Workers from the Agriculture and Forestry Office in Say district in cooperation with related bodies culled 1,170 poultry from 76 households in Ban Nalae village on 14 September.
A surveillance zone has been demarcated, located some distance from the red zone and it covers 20 villages. In the event of the outbreak of bird flu, the Agriculture and Forestry Office would ban the movement of chicken such as the transportation of chicken between provinces and from other localities.
The authorities have set up roadside stations and its workers disinfected all vehicles entering and leaving the bird flu localities.
Officials had also been utilized to check the transfer and sales of all kinds of poultry products in the demarcated area.
The health officers of the district have been checking the health status of the people in the district, especially in the red zone.A campaign is being launched in this area to recruit and train people to work in containing the bird flu and to disseminate information on preventive measures to the local people.
