The south-east Asian country of Laos is a great destination for eco-tourism, one expert suggests.
Its development has been carefully planned which means that it is largely an unspoilt destination, says Richard Waters, writing for the Independent.
There are a number of protected areas in the country which have "pristine forests" as well as exotic animals such as big cats and elephants.
Mr Waters suggests: "Thanks to a home-grown ecological movement, this developing country is enjoying a surge of controlled eco-tourism which, thus far, has contributed to its economy in a sustainable fashion."
The writer adds that Bangkok in Thailand is the gateway for people in the UK wishing to travel to Laos, where connections to the country are available.
According to Lonely Planet, it is the country's "isolation from foreign influence" which has helped maintain its unique appeal.
It states that the nation is moving on from a somewhat troubled past to an encouraging future, of which sustainable tourism is very much a part.
Yes, it becomes more popular after an Australian guy got lost in the jungle of Laos.. eco-tourism will be the best of Asia if Laos does the great job for that..cheer
