I guess the poster is to tell visitors to ignore them.

Oh! really Lan Xang? In what city are you talking about? I've been back to Laos so many times and I stayed at so many guesthouses/hotels. But, I NEVER had that happen to me once. Fist of all, no hotels or guesthouses will let anyone in if they don't stay there.

It didn't happened to you but it doesn't mean it happen to other people. Two guys I know went to Laos and had this happend to them in seperate time. One of the guy had his girlfriend with him and the girl just walk up and started flirting with him. They almost broke up over the incident too.

The sign should be like this “NO SOLICITATION ALLOWED “ not “DO NOT ENTERTAIN OUR WORKING GIRLS” It sounds funny and unclear to the extent.

What they meant by this is... When you (tourists) go back to your country, the problems remain in Laos. Do not cause any hardship to their business.

I do hope Lao Government put alot of efford to crack down on this problem. The last thing I want to see is.. Laos become a SEX stop for tourists around the world, like our next door neighbor.

They need to reword it. It doesn't really make sense. It lead people to misinterpret.

"Working Girl" in USA mean prostitute. They could have just say 'DON'T BOTHER THE STAFFS".

OK instead of focusing on the visitors as the root of the problem why not stop those "working girsl"? Put them in Jail for a long time. If there is no gold there will not be gold hunters. Also if the visitor break the rule put them in jail as well.

But you cant put up a waste of time sign to stop people flirting and having fun. If someone have a problem with that than it is their problem. You just having fun. If you break a law that is different. If a Lao Nork guy want to spend (not "spent") the money and act like a fool let him. Why get upset or jealous. Does he do it to upset you or were just having fun? But him just having fun bothers you then it look like the problem is not him but you.

the term "working girl" could be a euphemism, a slang, a street term - to mean "prostitute". since the term "solicitation" was used in the same context, that confirms the use of "working girl" within the sentence's context.

it means "do not patronize prostitutes" coz paying and employing their services would condone the practice. that's basically what the sign means.

also, all foreign tourist books and travel sites (like the "Lonely Planet" and websites like "wikipedia") actually give warnings to tourists against any sexual relations with foreigners and lao girls. they say that such relations are prohibited by law and may be punishable. i dunno how real that is, or if that is enforced. that's what the books say at least.
