KPL) Security officers were able to detain a handbag thief and a Lao American citizen spent counterfeit Stole-f.gifbanknotes of Kip currency at the Tha Vatchanh Mekong river bank of boat racing festival on 11 October.
Deputy Head of Police Headquarter in Chanthaboury district, Major Xayphet Boutdy who is also head of security unit of the festival said that during festival between 10 and 13 October, 13 women informed our security guards that their handbags were cut and belongings were stolen.
Their belongings and money were stolen, including 3 million kip, 20,000 baht and US$300, a digital camera and two mobile phones worth 10 million kip.
He informed that a Lao American citizen was arrested on 11 October while he tried to spend counterfeit banknotes at the boat racing festival at the Tha Vatchanh Mekong river bank. The Lao American citizen confessed that he has been here for three years and he was being asked for Lao citizen.
The types of counterfeit banknotes that he brought to buy at the festival including 50,000 kip, 20,000 kip and 10,000 kip banknotes.

Where did you find this article from? newspaper? Do you have a link to some website??  Please provide your source.

If it is true, what a shame!!!  Does anyone know Lao law in situation like this?  How many months will he be spending in jail for this kind of crimes?

Stealing is bad period!!!!  Shouldn't be stealing at all.  If he is guilty by law than send his sorry asssss to jail.

Kob jai der for the link...  Well, I hope the law will put him away for awhile.  Send him to "Don Thao", I wonder If they still have that island? I think he would prefer doing time in U.S. jail than being lock up in Laos.
