Mining and tourism are now two tools of Lao government to bring Laos out of poverty.

Let's post suggestion for our government to help reduce poverty in Laos.

Mining will make the government rich but not necessary benefit the regular people.
I would encourage the tourism. That really put more money in people pocket. It can be started in every cities and village while mining is only in certain area and only benefit the people in that area.

Education is good too. Very important and I encourage Laos government to provide the best for it people.

However I read somewhere in the Middle East and even in Phillapine, there are many smart and educated people but there are no jobs. They have to send there people oversea (such as a case for Phillipine) to find a job. Even if these people send  money home, the people at home will have money to spend but it doesn't develop the business such as factory and manufacture sector at home.

So I encourage the government to build business at home.

government should invest more in agriculture, not just irrigations but creates new ricefields and allows farmers growing rice there, creating cooperatives and at the start, provide them necessary funds and staffs to teach them to be self-sufficient, farmers could pay back to the government with the outcome of their products. it will surely be a sustainable activity that would be profitable to both, government and farmers... if the government cannot do it, it should propose lao businessmen or foreigners to do it .

Laos needs to become socialist, look what has happened to the United States, whole country is going to hell in a handbasket.

To each work according to his abilities and pay according to his needs?

Seriously it's easy, share the wealth. For the cost of one luxury SUV you could educate a couple thousand student for a year easy, right? INCOME Tax. and if people have unreported income toss them in jail, that will teach them to not cheat on taxes.

hmmm that is a good case with great education does not always mean there will be jobs so lets brain storm and find a way how and what kind of jobs can lao create. and we have to be realalistic lao cannot start off with a micro chip making factory but something that will provide many jobs and a decent work.

i can only think of stuff like clothes and products.....

i am very serious about trying to start a business back in lao but i just dont know what.... but one thing is for sure we also have to develope human resources like education taht way our ppl wont get easily taken advantage of.

Yeah, Lao government know very well how to reduce poverty.  They are experts in giving lip service on why poverty reduction is their main priority and how they are going to achieve the UN Millenium Development Goal by the year 2020.  They are so good at it when they talk to foreign journalist, development agencies, ngo's, their own people that one does actually believe them, but the sad truth is some lao people lifted themselve out of poverty due to their own hard work and reliance on their families and neighbors rather than benefiting from failed government social programs.  Lao government agencies are mostly in the state of inertia; no idea, no movement, no result.    Without international development agencies (ie, foreign aid), poverty reduction programs won't even get started.  Now let's see how much of the income from all those dams will actually go into reducing poverty.  Anybody for damming the Mea Nam Khong?

Nowhere people can get something for free from their government. Don't talk rubbish Mr. Chiip. Tell me where people can earn money without working.

In Western countries everything is even more expensive. Let's take an education is USA as an example. If you have no money to pay, your children would not able to pass the doors of any universities. In USA some people are in debt until they die.
