This kind of problems will surely happen when it comes to the 25th SEA GAMES in Vientiane. How much will we import food from Thailand to feed ASEAN guests? What people think if they come to Laos to eat Thai products?

Champassack imports 200 cattles from Thailand to feed games people  !!!

(KPL) Champassack province, venue of the 8th National Games, imported 200 cows and 1,500 tons of chicken limbs from Thailand to feed the athletes and supporters.

Officials of the Industry and Commerce Office of Champassack province said that the import of the cattle is to make up for the shortfall in Champassack during the games period.

This province is expecting an influx of about 7,000 athletes and hundreds of thousand of spectators during the 12-day games period.

A crucial question is whether this province is short of food? Though it has a high potential for animal husbandry but even under normal conditions it imports cattle and chicken from neighboring countries, Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia.
Mr Somboun Vongkhamla, Vice-Head of Industry and Commerce Office of Champassack province disclosed yesterday that Champassack province will face a shortage of food, especially meat products and this explains the need to import them. He added that seafood would also be imported to cater to the tastes of the games’ people.

Speaking to KPL he said that local authority officers would be taking measures to control the prices of goods to prevent the wholesalers and retailers from selling at exorbitant prices during the games period

Thanks!!! You just gave me an idea.  I think I'll go back to Laos and open a pig/cow/goat farm.  Since, there aren't enough supply in that area.  Maybe I can be "Ar Sear"  hahahhahah

we have the cow farms and chicken farm in Laos, why do we import from Thailand? as for 25th sea games in Vientiane, I think Laos will import some food from Thailand, china and Vietnam, but not all. some vegetable, meat, chicken, bread and other items, we probably can get them from internal market.

i guess if you are not expecting an extended
need to feed thousands of foreigners,
the need to improvise is justified, faced with the
extraordinary circumstance.

I think food and sport event, it's some thing different, it's not relate together as this topic mention "No food to eat, but have money to organize sport events".
First try to think for normal condition of Pakse and then think to sport event condition.

So much is riding on this ASEAN game. Laos PDR is making a huge bet on this. I hope the return investment will be worth it. The government is hoping to pump up their tourism business. How many and what country will be able to see the event. I also would love to see a data on who is visiting Laos PDR? DO they get lot of Asian tourists or non-Asian tourists.

Is Wattay airport, hotel, restaurant, transportation ready to accommodate such an event?

Will there be a huge spectators turn out at all.

every event is different; there are diff rules, diff protocols, diff venues...etc..wink

there will also be some degree of unknowns with logistics planning, organizing, staffing, and coordinating a multi-national event.

this is a big deal because
spontaneous events can lead to a certaint chaos or it can highlight how
successful the event is.

and sometimes you can never plan for an event until it happens and
every game has the potiential of making an outbreak.

other important planning factors:no

There are issues with the security planning, medical, the housing of these
athletes and spectators, extra traffic load in the city, transportation...

?would the military have to help out the local police force

so, in beijing, china, the olympics may have come and gone but
i hope this asean games will mark a moment for the laos pdr.

i hope the asean games and other events happening in the laos pdr
will serve as a propeller and a catalyst for making and starting
the development of laos into a world class nation.

being able to provide the venue and allowing 10s, 20s, maybe hundreds of thousands of
people to watch these great athletes perform is something the laos pdr should be proud of.

this is one of those moments in time we all can be proud of.

for the laos pdr and staffs the challenge of organzing the games
is an "olympics" in itself.  blahblah.gif

I hope they win gold. ha! -coffee confuse

You are just a lowly Laos PDR citizen you have no saying on whatever the ELITES decided. You probably didn't know about the concession of the land next to That Luang and the Special Zone in Luang Namptha before it already happened.

You have got better to go back to Laos now to raise the chickens, pigs, sheep, goats and cows and buffaloes for sale to Lao officials to feed the SEA Games' atlhetes otherwise it will be a little too late to seize the golden opportunity to get rich in Laos.

The PEOPLE DEMOCRATIC REBUBLIC do not make the decision. It is the "People REVOLUTIONARY Party" that is making the decision.

If I say that you are stupid because you fail to notice important fact.........that is not whining. I am just making a statement.

If the ELITES from the LPRP tell you to drop your pant then bend over and you start to cry with a word "no".......that is whining.

Is a concert in your little Culture Hall samething as olympic game?

Lao people are not stupid as you think. We are now preparing for ASEAN Games in every corner.

No worry on how well we prepare for it. You just look back on our past history, otherwise we would have won the American enemy and old regime.

Anyway, none of your business Lan_Xang either. Bear in mind! You are an American citizen. Why do you want to interfere other people's business?
Why do you want to dictate other people?

Other people also have their own brains.

Are you dictating me not to express my thought? Who are you to do that to me?

Beside, YOU or LAO people can't say anything. It is your government that is disctating. You can't say anything about it if you disagree because you will get put in jail or get killed.

Your government is not YOU. Therefore when I say stuff on the government I am not say stuff to YOU. So don't get offended and Lao people should be upset about it. Because you don't elect your officials YOU are not responsible for their action.

Another thing, why don't you point to my comment where I was attacking the government.

hello, mr. i am studying in china, confuse

please dont be scare by the amount of writing i have made below.
it took me but a few min. to write this. so bare [bear] with me. LOL. date.gif

-----------------
when you told us that you are studying in a foreign country, china,
we knew then that you already have achieved academic success and
most of us are proud of you.

it is expensive to go to school in a foreign country.
some foreign students pay a higher tuition than their local classmates,
sometimes paying double or triple the cost of tuition.

not only have you achieved academic success but are financially able to affort the costs of your study.
i dont care if the gov't is paying for you school, if you are on scholarship, or
if your relative's generous endowment have made it possible for you to pay for books, rent, and food.
these are things that would be interesting for your friends to hear, yes?

banned.gif

and if your friends want to know about geography or the economic situation in laos,
they can always google it, yeah?

as far as your friends are concern, bored.gif
i would not try to answer their questions as direct as possible, would not.
people who remark a statement in a form of a question sometimes really dont care if you answer them directly.
just like if someone says, "hello, how are you."
they really dont care about your health condition.
they are just making an acknowledgement of you.

ok, you are almost finish reading....hang in there. read more. hungry.gif

so, if your friends say, "hey, mr. lao guy, i heard laos is poor and doesnt have mcDonald's",
you can say, "is that what you heard, mr. china man?"

then you turn the conversation around and talk about YOU! omg.gif
tell them about your life.
tell them about your success.
tell them about you goals and dreams.
tell them what you would like to see and do when you grow up.

tell them how is it that you are there in china and that as years go by,
you cant wait to go back to your homeland again and you have missed sao lao so much.
tell them that you are proud of the culture, history, and the people of laos.
tell them that you are missing your brothers, sisters, mom, and dad and the people who
have helped supported your big butt so you can go study in china.

so, let me recap. pray.gif
when people ask about your country they really dont mean for you to give them statistics about
GDP, population size, average rain fall per year....etc.

they are just acknowledging your pretty face.
and they preferred to hear about YOU and how you think and feel about your homeland.
you and your pretty face represent to them maybe the only image they know of laos.
in their eyes , they will equate you with the country of laos.

your success, goals, and dreams become the hope and future of laos.
when you succeed, laos will succeed. if you can dream, it means laos has hope.
we will do our part to see that will happen, yes?

ok, i hope that is enough material for your conversation with your sao china friend.
i am hungry and will go make some noodle soup now. go!
