According to the news published in Vientianetimes, Laos as a member of ASEAN could gain many things from its coming summit in Thailand.
The summit will provide a good opportunity for Laos to disseminate its foreign policy of peace, independence, friendship and cooperation. This will raise Laos 's reputation in regional forums and its standing in the international community.
The summit also represents an opportunity for Laos to attract assistance and mobilise funds from Asean member countries through bilateral mechanisms and within the Asean cooperative framework to narrow the development gap between member states. This is part of efforts to implement the second phase of the Asean Integration Initiative.
This will help achieve strong Asean economic integration and establish a true Asean community by 2015.
