today I read on other Lao website this topic, just post it back here for everyone discuss, is that true or not on your view. the Link of that website is: http://www.laobabes.com/lazylaopeople.html
and here is :
Everybody gets lazy once in a while, but it seems that Lao people are more lazier than others.
In Laos, most people don't have a real goal or drive and too many people are just going through the motions. Most employees rarely have the authority to make decisions. Jobs tend to be very narrowly defined, and it is often difficult to find the one person who knows how to perform a certain task. Interruptions are also common.
A long lunch hour and nap are a normal part of the work and school day in Laos. Official government work hours provide for a two hour lunch and nap period in the afternoon and many Lao people go home to eat and relax, therefore it takes so much time to get things done in Laos. In advanced industrial countries, most employees stay at work all day and they grab something light to eat such as a sandwich then they get stuck into their work, as a result productivity and output is quicker.
Time is also not important in Laos. Most people can arrive late to work and it's very easy to make up fake excuses. Lao people don't tend to be as preoccupied as westerners with "efficient" use of time. Appointments may be delayed or not kept at all and this is acceptable in Lao culture. Friends may drop by without previous arrangements and it's not uncommon for people to receive last minute dinner or wedding invitations.
Even though Laos doesn't have as many public holidays compared to Thailand, Lao people still enjoy partying as much as Thai people. Special occasions in western society such as Christmas, Birthdays and Valentine's Day doesn't exist or have any meaning in Lao culture but people still celebrate them as an excuse to take the day off.
Lao students rarely read books or study hard at home. Instead preferring to watch TV, party or waste their time doing something unproductive. Most of the smartest people in Laos received their education in another country. Laos have universities but the qualifications are only treated as local and not internationally recognised.
There are different reasons why Lao people are lazy. The lack of motivation and enthusiasm plays a part but the main reason is due to earning low wages. Working hard isn't going to increase their payments so most people will just do the job on their own tempo. Teachers are also not strict enough on their students.
Self employed Lao people work for themselves so they can open or close business on their own terms. Public transport drivers such as Tuk-Tuks and Jumbos are not paid at an hourly rate so they don't feel it's necessary to work flat out, there's always time to relax and have a beer when they feel like it.
Make no mistake, Lao people work hard with domestic chores in and around their homes, but Laotians are lazy in paid employment and education which is becoming part of everyday life in Laos.
It's partly true to some Lao people, but not all Lao people. There are hard working and lazy people everywhere. So, I don't agree with the saying "Lao peope are lazy".
BTW, the www.laobabes.com is website done by several Thai people, I guess. Although some issues are related to Laos, it is easy to guess that the website is Thai based.
So, no surprise he or she would have written like that.
lao peple not lazy. they just want to be reward. No reward no motivation. for exemple. Lao people came to work in America they work so hard because their a lot of money, for lao people in Laos tthey don't pay much is very hard to motivation to work for less.
I agree that most of reasons she said here are true. These behaviors are seen in Laos’s neighboring country, the Cambodian too who share mostly the same criteria. But, I strongly disagree if she or others judge these behaviors are wrong doing or bad things for Lao people. It should not consider as the Western culture are better than one exist here. People here live a good life unless they can live and help each other in their society. They have enough to eat and to enjoy their ways of living in their own style, culture and environment. Why we need to act as those people to stay long hour sitting with a sandwich in front of a PC? Why we Asian could not judge those crazy behaviors as a wrong and bad doing? I, myself, enjoy a short nap during lunch before I go back to work at 1.30 pm and it could help me refresh myself and have a good start work too. I don’t see any bad impact toward my working time. However, as I noticed for Lao people, they do drink too much alcohol, most of them. Just a thought!
i Agree on that, the most people are a bit lazy, because most people think that why they have to work hard and no results? for example: the farmer family work hard on growing rice and the end of year just nothing receive , because of the flooding or the rice is so bad harvestry without the fertilizer or the soil is not good. so the farmer just doesn't have the motivation anymore and does not want to grow anything. some people from aboard come to Laos and see the empty land, what do they think? Lao people lazy?
Please don`t say lao peoples lazy they want to work but no job for them to do in laos job only 30% but population born everyday so job less everyday I know every fight for life to live, as I know lao peoples in USA some lot of peoples lazy too don`t wanna work collect welfare in france too collect shomage ,but most people work so don`t say lao pples are lazy remember including you too because you are laotiane too
Being a Laotian, i have to admit that I am a bit lazy.. wake up late, never clean my dish and wash my cloth or even take bath sometimes... but i still do other stuffs well ..

in my view, lao people are satisfing with what do they have.
1. They work and earn by themself. don't want to base on other people, other way. thats why even pay less but they happy is enough.
2. Under other country eyes, it might change to be no dreaming, no hoping or lazzy.
3. Lao people like to enjoin evenly inside the pocket do not have much money like that every day, evey week or even every month. But Drink and enjoin first, care about tommorrow latter.
heard Japanese, Koreans & Singaporeans say the same thing about khon Lao too...how they have to be 100X more patient with their Lao employees...cos they don't work & think as fast as most people in Japan, South Korea or Singapore...
Japanese engineers who were reconstructing Th Setthathilath & other roads in Vientiane said they preferred to hire Chinese labourers cos they can work longer hours from morning till late at night & at a faster pace to complete the projects on time...they don't need to take naps & won't turn up for work drunk on lao khao, unlike some Lao labourers :P
perhaps any Lao students who have lived & studied in those countries can comment?

Now we know why there are less jobs for lao people. I saw alot of viets/chineses/thai people working in Laos. Most viets are into building houses and chineses are installing cable lines. Khon Lao non kin beerlao yu!! LOL
It's partly true to some Lao people, but not all Lao people. There are hard working and lazy people everywhere in the world. So, I don't agree with the saying "All Lao peope are lazy".
Yes, I do agree with you that our people get used to have easy life style.
However, I would not advice foreigners to comment much in front of Lao people. I know well our Lao people character. They like to hate foreigners very much, especially Viet and Thai people.

I don't understand well, why Lao people " like to hate foreigners very much, especially Viet and Thai people".
The term "work" is still new to our culture. Most of us cultivating rice and work on the field without supervision. We can work any hour we like as long as we are stable enough to feed our family. A lot of workers that work for companies still have that mentality. It's not that our Lao people do not want to improve or lazy, it just that nobody really show or change the system to improve that. It will take time and education to reach that point. It is the same for every country when you are entering capitalism stage.
Lao people are a poor ****ing example of human beings. They all know what work is and what you have to do to 'get money' but they're all genuinely lazy, entitled ****s that think they can obligate their foriegn family members to give them money so that they can continue to sit on their lazy dark asses and pretend to have money. Go **** yourselves you ****ing lazy pieces of ****.
