Many of our young fellow Laotian Americans doesn’t give a crap much about national history, geography, politics and all. Some don’t even know how many states there are in the nation. But I am still proud of them. LOL
Are those video suppose to be a joke? You are right Bruce, a lot of us really brought up by our parents to just finish high school, get a job and taking care family. We don't really see what the future will be without that college degree or some kind of higher education. I think this is very selfish and hopefully Lao people can change that.
You are right, a lot of us are brought up by our parents to just finish high school, get a job and make a family. Simply brought up to a simple life. My parents were one of them. I don't blame them because that's how they were brought up back then in Laos. For some it's even worst than that. Until today they still have that mentality. I guess as long as we have a comfortable life that's good enough for them. But of course for our generation, that's not the path we want to take, for some of us anyway. I guess what I'm trying to say is, don't blame it on your parents becaue you don't have a college degree. It's up to you. You have a brain, so think for yourself. If you have a goal, determination, and the mind set to succeed, then you will. You can be anything you want to be if you put your mind to it.
I'm glad my parents brought me up to not just finish high school(not that hard!). But also to graduate college-please don't use your parents as an excuse.

I wouldn't say "MANY". I do agree some LAO-Americans doesn't know this but it is same with Black-Americans, White-American, Hispanic-American, Vietnamese-Americans, etc.....
We are not special. Does Laotians of Laos PDR knows of all the Laos history or only that after 1917?

I agree that we can do anything that you put your mind to it. This is not about blaming your parent. I also want to say that it is very critical for a parent to have the right mind set of how to raise a child, how to motivate them and aim high in life. At a very early age, kids will grow and learn best to be successful in life. It is very tough when you are an adult and trying to changed your way of thinking.
