Thai and Malaysian buyers
have ordered more organic
products from Laos, according
to the Director of the Pakxong
Development Export-
Import State Enterprise in
Champassak province.
The company signed
farming contacts to supply
organic produce to Amad
Export-Import Company in
Thailand and NR Marketing
Halane Food in Malaysia
earlier this month
Company Director Ms
Inpeng Samounty said the
company would supply 50
tonnes to each company for
12 months beginning after
Lao New Year.
“The two companies have
ordered more from Laos
because they trust the quality.
They have ordered 33 different

products
varieties, of which we can
supply 18 at present.”
The company is now
expanding its plantation
areas to at least 100 hectares
from the current 30 hectares
at present.
“I think we can supply
enough to both companies
because the fertile soil
allows us to plant more
seeds in both the wet and
dry seasons,” she said.
Compared to some
other countries, Laos has a
better potential for organic
production in terms of
weather and soil conditions,
especially in Pakxong where
the weather is suitable for
planting all year round.
Organic Lao-grown fruit
and vegetables won’t just be
sold in domestic markets but
also around the world.
Ms Inpeng said her
organic vegetables became
well-known through the organic
market in That Luang, Vientiane.
She used traditional methods
that her family members have
passed on to her.
Consumers and those who
have contact with the company
are confident in the quality of
the produce because they visit
her farm before they buy or sign
a contact.
“We have trained 10
graduates from the agriculture
school in the province to provide
extra labour. We also invite
experts to teach their skills
so our company can increase
production.”
Ms Inpeng said the company
wanted to lead by example, by
showing that organic methods
could be profitable as well as
healthy.
She also wanted to help
local people throughout the
community to benefit from
organic farming
