(KPL) Eighteen people died in road accidents in Laos during the three-day Lao New Year, 14 to 16 April.
Deputy Head of Traffic Police Department, Lieutenant Colonel, Khamthavai Phet-outhay said that during this festive period there were 165 accidents, resulting in 303 damaged vehicles, injuries to 419 people and death to 18 people.
Compared to the figures for last year, it decreased 32 accidents but this year?s death toll is high.
Lt. Col. Khamthavai said that for the three-day period before the commencement of the Lao New Year, there were already 90 road accidents and they killed 12 people. Most of the road accidents, he said were caused by drivers who violated traffic rules, speeding, poor road conditions, substandard vehicles and drink driving. For most of the accidents, it was between motorcycles, he added.
In an attempt to reduce road accidents, security forces were deployed on the main roads to check on the traffic conditions but they faced the problem of trying to control passenger buses that were travelling beyond the speed limit, said the Deputy Head of Traffic Police.
He called on road users to abide by the rules of the traffic code, to drive at a steady speed, to put on the helmet when they ride motorcycles and not to drive when they are intoxicated.
I think the number is very serious, like a big earthquake or natural disaster in some countries. Why the police don't do anything, when they know that every year, more than 100 people die ?

That number is for the whole country. In Vientiane only 3 people died. Dude.
Is ok only 18 pples why they have to have drink and drive they have to die ,[f don`t wanna die why they don`t walk and play that normal to me ...no big deal wanna have fun so some have to die
