The Lao government last month agreed to grant foreigners honorary citizenship as part of efforts to attract international investment and assigned the ministry to conduct a study into the idea.Phoutlavanh Duangamad, a citizenship official from the Ministry of Justice, said more than 100 requests for Lao citizenships were submitted every year to the ministry and forwarded to the Lao National Assembly.

Very few people on earth would like to become Lao citizen even Lao nai themselve try to get out to the first world countries and looking for good jobs and good income . Only the Chinese would like to become Lao citizen because they have a good plan , so use your common sense. 20 years from now or 50 years from now who will run the country....guess....who will be the first class citizen , wealthy and power and whom will still be second class citizen and still poor. Brain and mind who????...indirectly take over....
Need to ask Lao Nork, will you be ready to change your present nationality to Lao Nationality?

Wait and see use your common sense, who want to become Lao citizen but the Chinese who immigrant to laos and 20 to 50 years from now may be 20 millions Chinese will become Lao citizen because they have a good plan to indirectly take over Laos. Even Lao nai try to fled Laos for a good jobs and good life .Sad but it is the truth......They will be the one who are rich and first class citizen and have power and rule the country .
It should not be too easy to get lao nationality (as any nationality in the world).. and the rules have to be clear and the same for everyone.... i think the current rules are not bad.
To merit Lao citizenship, you have to live in Laos for a significant time, be able to speak/read lao language and understand lao culture, etc... Personlay, i would enjoy getting lao nationality, but i clearly don't match the critera for the moment, and i clearly accept this (i just have a lao wife and think that one day maybe i'll go to live in Laos... nothing more... i cannot speak and read lao yet, and i never lived in Laos.. just went there many time for holidays).
So i don't know if it's a good thing to reduce the critera and give lao nationality to people just because they can bring money to the country.... this mean selling the country to foreigner and create a "paper nationality" : those people will be lao on the paper, but not in their mind and heart.
Anyway, i think there is one thing to improve, clearly : Laos, as many countries in the world should accept double nationality. Because when someone or a family share is life with 2 countries, when a guy or a girl have both lao and farang blood (son a farang father and lao mother, or the contrary...), when someone feel strong feeling for too countries, 2 cultures.... there is no reason to force him to abandon and reject it's first nationaly when you give him a new one (lao), because the person, in his/her mind and heart belong to the 2 countries, so his/her administrative situation (nationality) should respect and represent this situation (2 cultures=2nationalities).

you might have to do harder, coz what i see is not i want you to be. i mean, your writing is pretty bad as USA born laotian. if i had an opportunities as you do, i will not only do better (compare to myself), but will help others, who do not have that opportunities. i did not go to school, but living with hope, that my kids will do better.

Here you go. why GVP and most of Hmong ppl are still keep trying to take down lao goverment, when you can do by above way ?

i agree with you on this issue. double nationality. .......do you mean dual citizenship ? double nationality is not good thing, it is like double standard.

Yes, just like the Vietnamese and the Chinese. What I mean that I am afraid that soon Laos will be taken over by the big neighbor contries . Because these people come in the big among of number and some illegally as well. Now Laos have no choice because Laos have no way to the sea. To become Lao citizen by marry that is not the problems but the intentional plan to take over by the bigger neighbor countries that are the threat to the Laos. The problems are Lao nai show a lot of hate and very unfriendly to Lao nork who still care about Laos. Every times almost every topic about Laos , there must be some one show hate toward the other instead of united and exchanged the idea how would we do to survive. Lao nork just criticize the Lao goverment and nothing good to help but up set the Lao nai . Then Lai nai always show hate and name calling to all Lao morh. This is not the solution to resolve the problems. To me we must united just like the Jew that how the Isreal still survive . Lao goverment must balance the power from the Vietnamese and Chinese with the west soon before it is too late. The west are not going to occupy Laos but with good diplomacy to balance power and economy aid . Also , I guess 90% of Lao nork will not want to become Lao citizen and want to over throw the lao goverment except the general Van Pao and the Hmong and some old Lao idiots . For the new generation age from 40 years and below , they care about Lao people and love their mother homeland and never again want to see Lao killing Lao again. Of course , they criticize about the corruption . So stop worrying that the lao nork will come back and take your offices. The doctor in Laos earns about 200 to 300 dollars per month and the doctor in the United States earns the average about 8,000 dollars per month and I don't think they want to come back to Laos. So the same with the other Lao labors as well. They care and criticize and nothing to be worried about. So find the way how they could donate their money , clothes, shoes, food , vaccines , use computers . school books...etc....also make sure and insure that really reach those poor kids who really needed.
