I would love to go back and watch the ASEAN games.  But!! I've been broke for few months and barely making ends meet.  I don't know if I get to go at all.  Unless one or two Samakomlao members that currently living in Laos are willing to support me for few weeks.  I don't ask for much.. a place to stay and some foods.biggrin

My heart is always with Lao athletes and would love flight to Lao during SEA GAMES.
The only things that pull me back is the tickets for SEA GAMES as where to buy and how to buy....may be unavailable any mores...
For me, I have excellent conditions as vacations,job stable, healthy and even money.

To second person, if you can afford the ticket to LAO, then the next thing is you should have around 500 us dollars or 1000, for 1 month in LAO. You will have plenty of money to spend....if I am not wrong then 500 us dollars converting to kip you could have at least 5 000 000 kip if you have relatives in Vientiane then is a good thing otherwise you still able to rent a room about 50 000 kips a night and let say you stay for a month in a guest house only cost you 1 500 000k then you still have enough money to spend. Go for it make sure you have 500 to 1000 us dollars then you will be very comfortable in 1 month in LAO, Good luck, folks

 If you really wanted to go to LAO for Sea Games and just need somewhere to stay...I can support you, just leave your name here, I will send you some money enough for you to stay in a guest house in Vientiane for food if you can afford 3 us dollars a day then you will have no problem in 1 month in LAO. How about that. Your name and address or country you are now. And make look at guest houses in Vientiane and book a room before you go. Cheer.

The company I work for now is running with a very tight skeleton crew since most of the people got laid off and they cannot afford to let me take a long vacation. If you can find me a new job then I will go...

Have you tried to inquiry about Vientiane Guest Houses, I saw many western tourists using them, so they must be alright for you. As I known, a room in a guest house in Vientiane costs between 50 000 kip to 80 000kip/air conditioning for 1 night. Try to look at guest houses in Vientiane, good luck.

 If you wanted comfortable room and quite luxury meal, but if you have relatives in Vientiane then it would cost you less than 1000 us dollar, for me if I spend 10 us dollars for meal each day and a single room around 15 us dollars then, total cost is 750 us dollar a month.....in the centre of Vientiane city, you can have a bowl of noodle around 7000 k equals to 1 us dollar, a coffee 0.50 us to 1.00 us dollar. A beef noodle bowl around 2 us dollars...at night you can have plenty kind of food, there is a place open air, behind Vientiane Stadium, people sell all kind of cooking food, from KARLAM, PING KAY, to stir fried of all kind, as well as KAENG CHUD or soup....hot KAW NEOW is there too....you should have very good LAO food in this open air food strolls, in the Center of Vientiane there are all kind of food as well. A LAO BEER is around 8000kto 10 000k, 1.50 us dollar, I hope you have some good informations here.

Vientiane is not so cheap anymore.

Flight: ~$1000 (NYC - BKK Roundtrip)
Flight: ~$200 (BKK - UTH Roundtrip with border transfer)
Visa: $36
Accomodations: $20/night (x30 nights = $600/month)
Food: $2/bowl (let's you eat this 3 times a day = $6/day times 31 days = $186/month) Pher/Pho/Noodle soup right next to the US Embassy
Drink (neccessity):$1.00/litre x 3 litre/day = $3 x 31 days = $93/month
Drink (libation): $0.80/litre from mini-mart (say 5 litre/day easy = $4/day x 31 days = $124/month)

Basics
======
$1000
$200
$36
$600
$186
$93
$124
-------
$2239

Extras
======
SEA games tickets
souvenirs

DK, you're cracking me up man... hahhahahhaha  way to break it down to the dollar.. hahahh  those numbers you calculated is just for yourself, but it will double that when you meet poo sao ngarm ngarm from VTE..  I spend average about $4K total on each trip to Laos and I am on conservative side too..

my biggest problem is....  alcohol and relatives... i have so many relatives and i do have to give them $$$..  it add up quickly..  but, i'm happy to give them little money i have..

A bowl of Pho or Noodle = 1-2 USD? OMG.....disbelief That's too expensive. Why in Vietnam and Thailand is more cheapper? WE are local, man. We are not those foreign tourists.

Nearly SEAGAME already..I don't know the Gov will do something to stop the stores, shops, street food stores, pubs and restaurant and also taxi to control them not to up the price during the SeaGame.

It may be expensive for local Lao, but very cheap for tourist and Lao abroad and this is the only time Lao merchants can make profit for only 2weeks so please bare with them. $1.00 to $2.00 for a bowl of pho soup is much cheaper than a small cup of coffee at McDanolds in U.S.A.

Oops! I meant bear with them as in be patience with what seem to be unbearable with the rising cost of food, merchandise,and taxi cab fair.

Great idea Khontakhek! Is your invitation exclusive for Laotian members only or do you open for everyone?
