The "Haves" and the "Have Nots" of ASEAN

It is quite interesting to read all the posted threads and topics.  It is a never ending thread of one insult after the other and clearly this will never end.  Patriotism runs so high in everyone and everyone is proud of his heritage.

One thing to remember though is that every nation is only one economic downturn away from being considered a poor country.  The Philippnes in the 50s and the 60's was once a promising and economically significant country in Asia.  Twenty years with a dictator then a couple of corrupt presidents brought us to where we are now - not a rich country nor a poor country but I'm not proud to where we are in the family of nations.

I have always felt we could have done better if my people knew how to elect the best and the brightest rather than the rich and popular.  We are all neighbors, just like any neighborhood we can not be insulting each other.  A neighbor's problem is a neighborhood's problem.  Let us make this Southeast Asia a better neighborhood that we can all be proud of.

when the word ASEAN flow to my ear, the first thing i thought about is Human right, Demonstration,corruption......then Traveling.

But i hope some dayyyy , ASEAN will b better and stronger than this.

Finally, found somebody who makes a lot of sense.  Now I know who has a better education system amongst SEA.

Hi Joe, thanks for trying to bring sense to everyone. Most asian countries have their own taste of sufferings from other countries in the past. But that has been long ago. Throwing insults against each other will only relieve the pain. Dont let the ghost of the past haunt you. Let go and focus on how you can make this world a better place to live for the future generation, no
matter which side of the border you are. Peace to everyone!
