I don’t understand why many members of SamakomLao keep using it. Though I am not residing in Laos but I do highly appreciate their generosity toward Lao people and for whatever reason, I just simply don’t care because that is beyond the point. But their continued support and assistance to Lao PDR should merit its virtue. After all, the moderator yourself is studying in Japan right? Please consider banning it. It would truly be a complete lack of respect to Japanese people and their government.

I respect your homage to Japan people and govt. Yes, they provide continual support and assistance for Lao Socio development. Nevertheless, I just wonder what brought you for the topic. For my understanding, the word "Jap", "JPN", or YIPUN, is not matter as long as long it indicates Japan. Anyway, I think you are good guy. ^^

The word Jap is considered derogatorily taunting word and very offensive after World War II just like referring to black people as N1ggers. According to Wikipedia, during World War II, the word Jap was described those of Japanese descent, "Jap" was then commonly used in newspaper headlines to refer to the Japanese and Imperial Japan. "Jap" became a derogatory term during the war, more so than "Nip".[2] Some in the United States Marine Corps also tried to combine the word "Japs" with "Apes" to create a new description, "Japes", for the Japanese.
In 2003, the Japanese deputy ambassador to the United Nations, Yoshiyuki Motomurea, protested the North Korean ambassador's use of the term in retaliation for a Japanese diplomat's use of the term "North Korea" instead of the official name, "Democratic People's Republic of Korea".[7] In Texas, under pressure from civil rights groups, Jefferson County commissioners in 2004 decided to drop the name "Jap Road" from a 4.3-mile road near the city of Beaumont. Also in adjacent Orange County, "Jap Lane" has also been targeted by civil rights groups.[8] The road was originally named for the contributions of Kichimatsu Kishi and the farming colony he founded. For more information, please refer to Wikipedia or Dictionary for the Jap as slang.
Is an American created word. It is offensive if only use it in America because American would know the history behind the word and American bring their own feeling, American perspective of the world, and from an American experience.
The word almost have no meaning outside America unless you want to force the American feeling upon the world. If that is the case we would see things as American and be offensive to things thar are of Ameican view.
In Thailand they make a hook with the little finger and shake each other hand. In America it mean you have a small penis.

I am sure the Japanese deputy ambassador to the United Nations wasn’t too pleased when North Korea ambassador intentionally used the term Jap in a referrence to Japan; otherwise, the deputy wouldn’t express his strong indignation. But I don’t think you can’t read well since you had failed to comprehend it and I wish I could have written it in Laotian for you. I strongly advise you not to call a Japanese man “Jap” if you happen to have an argument with him unless you are ready to box.
Did America create this world? No, I suppose the Lord did, but America created the UN and America still maintains its leadership in G-7, the world industrialized nations and still hold a wielding veto power in all major world issues whether or not you like it. All allies of Laos are fully aware and respect these facts especially the Viets because America can if it wishes, turn their country into a living hell economically and politically.Any person with an average brain size would know that most Asian nations including Singapore, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, India and so forth would respect American Interest and that’s the line they won’t cross. Imagine If US asks them not to do business with Laos, and Vietnam, what you think will happen. Do you really think that Laos can be removed from the list of the world poorest country in Southeast Asia by the year 2020?
