i think the Lao  law is not allowed to  hold  two citizenships, you have to keep Lao or other citizenship, maybe the law has modified lately?

Can have 2 nationality...................

i think the topic should be .......can some one hold 2 or more citizenship ?
nationality is was you were born. can not be changed as if you were born lao, you will be lao untill you die. if you leave laos and reside in another country, later on the law of that land allows you to become her citizen, you could aquire so.
the term race, nationality and citizenship are so different. if you mess it up, the readers can get you wrong or misunderstand.

my2cent
P.S. i get 3, do you want to share ?

The law does not say that Lao oversea will acquire Lao citizen after staying in Laos for five yrs. However, Lao citizenship of Lao abroad can be acquired by their willingness if he/she can still absorb to Lao culture and is able to read and write Lao language. And if he/she really loves the country. He/she must submit the application to agency concerned to consider. However, the Law prohibits Lao citizen to hold two nationalities at the same time. This means that he/she have to provoke their former citizenship after the Lao citizenship is provided.

For more information, read Lao Law at: http://www.na.gov.la/docs/eng/laws/pub_adm/Nationality%20(2004)%20Eng.pdf

think what you meant to say is revoke (or invalidate)...

If this is the case, that is not practically advantageous to Lao nork.

Not too many countries in this world allow due citizenship anymore.  It is all about the $$$, each country wants to tax you.

Sir  Wangdee,

why your nationality was lao ?

i think untill you die, your nationality is lao.

your citizenship can be whatever you choose and the law of the land allows.

e.g. i hold my lao passport in my pocket, european in my left hand and the USA in my right.  to your question (or to the author of the topic) can some one hold 2 citizenships at one time.  the answer is YES and NO,  it depends on what the citizenship do you hold ?! bcoz more countries' laws don't recognize dual citizenship.

USA will revoke your citizenship, if you apply for the foreign one, but will do nothing to all others you had, before becoming a USA citizen. does it make sense ?

that was me, my2cent.  i said that. i m not sure the sources, but you can check out at the gov. web site about the citizenship of the USA or about the USA passport. i said that, because when i worked on my paper for the green card and later for the citizenship test, i learn at some point on the topic. i m sure for revoking your USA citizenship, if you or any USA citizen apply for a foreign one.

Hey! Brother (my2cent) What's up? you kindda dispear lately, How have you been? so anyway. Let' get back to our topic! About a Dual citizenship thing. I believe I know just a little bit about Dual citizenship, a Dual citizenship happen only when the two country sign a treaty with one another, For instant: If our Country Lao sign a treaty with USA. and our Lao-nok automaticlly still have our Lao citizenship with unconditional rule period. so in this cases If you're a Lao-nok-held US's citizenship and want to get back your Lao's citizen or trying to have a Dual citizenships and Immigration might have to strip your US's citizenship because our country (LAOS) do not have any treaty with the USA untill recently, Here another Example: This is true. a Thai's citizens who lived outside the country still going home to vote for general election and some of them still even go home to use a 30 baht medical-care, here last example, I have a very goodfriend whiteboy who is from here NY city,He got a job at US embassy in Vientiane, LAOS. lived and worked in Laos almost 20 years got married to a lao women and had 2 kids and established his resident there in Lao also carried a green card just like any Lao who is not yet qualify to be a US citizen. But he has to leave Lao one every 5-6 yrs, Maybe lao's law require him to do so. When he 's back in the state the man stayed in my house. and I was asking him all kindda question about our country..Hey brother (my2cent) all of what you've said, you maybe right about it. and i just want to know where you get the information that's all..

Dear all brothers and sisters,

That is fine . Dual citizenship is for laos legally not possible.

I please to hold Lao Passport and Lao nationality if you have one by holding the legal contacts with laos. Please do not lose it( for more read the law on lao nationality).

That is to easiely get buying land in laos when you will have it. Laos economy will be developed to a country that everyone will live in. USA would and could be the dream of all people any more like in 1970-2000.

Saving and getting money enough and come back to laos have house and your business here.

Thank you.

officially the lao law does not allow anyone to hold dual citizenship.
you know it's always back door (exception) on this case.  for me, i never receive any subpoena and my lao citizenship never revoked by the court. and here i m still lao citizen by birth and by law. i hold a PDR of Lao's passport. (i did not renew when the validity expired),  when kicking dirt around, i pick one and now i get one more (USA's).
if you were born in laos (all paper will prove that), i think that you would request for reinstall your lao citizenship. remember ! you can not apply for lao citizenship, if you were not born in lao and to lao parents and if you hold other citizenship you have to denounce it.  in my case, i never loose my lao citizenship, i picked 2 more. both never need me to revoke my old one.

Dear all,

There is one thing important: legal contacts or legal relation with laos for certain periods of time fixed by the law.

Your passport should be renewed at the lao embassy although it is expired for a long time and explain your reasons why.

and the registration in the family book should be maintained( communication with parents to keep the registation) for several reasons as mentioned above.

I would like to see you being happiness, with house and business in laos as we all dream: a prosperous family.

i think lao PDR should change  the law, just like the brit . its freedom of choices. it work both way . lao nok now fall in a shoe of lao isan as thai call them buc lao, and lao PDR call them buc thai . falang always ask lao nok where are you came frome?
(regardless where the person born USA, Lao, Canada,Britain,AUSTRALIA),and lao PDR call them lao nok.  now my question is who the hell is lao nok? regardless where the person was born, is the person still  LAO, CARRY LAO GENE,TEN FINGER ON TOP OF THEY HEAD WHEN SEE ELDER AS GREEETING .(NOP) . BROTHER , SISTER PLEASE TELL ME AM I LAO ? I GUESS I AM NOT LAO. IN LAO PDR EYE I AM JUST AN OUTCAST.no
