I saw many Lao people speak thai very well, but I see many signboards are in French. However, many schools teach English in their curriculum, but many business people are Vietnamese and Chinese
It is a French as a second Languages in laos, i don't consider Thai Language as a second language to Laos at all. Because Thai 's Alphabate and Sara almost the same as Laos.Different only Pronunciation that's all. and widely spoken right now is English especially teenagers,But French still dominated in all the Government Departments. Thirth and Fourth would be Vietnamese and Chinese.. anyway all of these Languages can be benificial to all Lao if they want to learn..

And maybe we watching Thai TV dramas and Thai Game Shows everyday so that's why we can automatical speaking in Thai language. Thai language is not difficult to learn as we are very close to each other with cultures and languages.

For myself I speak 4 languages 1st Fluently Laos 2nd English as I learnt 3rd Thai as I live close to Thai border, I automatically speak 4th Khmer as I learnt to communicate with my family’s in law.
