Can anyone here with a good heart donate a wheelchair for this poor boy. He lives in Xiengkhouang. Forgot the exact place but I will try to retrieve his location. His knees are already callused from crawling and he cant really play around with other kids. I can not facililate the donation because Im not in Laos but maybe one (I refer to Lao abroad) of you can extend your generosity by asking some relatives to hand over the donated wheel chair for him. If Lao nai will donate it would be much easier to send it to him.
Khob jai lai lai in advance!

I'll check my notes Khontakhek to recall his exact location. Ive been in several places there and a bit confused at the moment which place I encountered him. In fact in the same place there is also a little girl who got paralyzed but hers was temporary. So I hope by this time she's fully recovered.
I'll try to post location tomorrow. But if I remember it right, I think his place is only a little more than an hour away from the provicial hospital. With regards to your question on how to place the donation, as Ive said it would be difficult for me to facilitate since Im no longer in Laos. But maybe the DREAMER can facilitate as I believe he is based in VNT? am I right? If not, I can post here the photo of one of the staff at the provincial health office who accompanied me during this visit. if there's anybody from Xienkhouang can go there and look for her, she will most likely rememebr the place.
This is the most that I can do. Here is the photo of the provincial health staff.

May I suggest you try contacting COPE Laos www.copelaos.org. See if you can get hold of a lady named Jo Pereira. Think that organisation is a trusthworthy one that will know the right contacts in Laos to organise/faciliate this. They might even be able to do something about his condition (because he's still young), or at least get him fitted for a proper wheelchair (one that doesn't fit well can cause future problems). Thanks for highlighting his case.
Since were already into this, I might as well keep the ball rolling. Here is another kid who desperately needs help. When we saw him he's really in a bad shape and full of helplessness. His family's poor, no one takes care of him because both parents have to work on the field to put food on the table. He's not receiving medical care at all; his wounds are proof. We think infection already reached his bones and prognosis is poor. I doubt if he made it to this date. We left some money for them to buy antibiotics but we dont have enough that time. So if ever they use it to buy medicine at all it would only cover several days. He also lives in Xienghouang but in a more remote place, about 4-5 hours from the provincial center (again I dont have my notes with me so I cant give exact place).
So Instead of filling this forum with "stupid" word (I mean Ive read it in many posts, it seems this is the most widely used word) why not channel our energies into action. I can contact COPE, yes. But what Im expecting to see is Lao who will say "OK ill take charge... I volunteer to contact them."
Please I dont mean to offend anyone. But this could be a great opportunity to show that you truly care. As Samakomlao said "united we stand divided we die." But are we just going to let this poor kid die?!?!

I will help them too. _____________________
Are you guys really serious in helping these kids? If you are well that's very nice of you. Aren't you based in Laos? Im now trying to contact some persons in Laos who could coordinate the donation. Im still waiting for their reply though. If someone's from my colleagues is willing to facilitate I will get back to you through here and give you my email so we can make final arrangements. Im still digging to my files and asking colleagues as well to find out kid's exact location.

Hi. I have a friend in VNT who is willing to coordinate the donation if you are really serious about this. But I think It would be best if the donation is a wheelchair for the first kid. Its ok if you wan to donate money but I cant assure you that if it reach the family they will use it to buy wheelchair. I mean they might give priority to buy basic commodities. If you decide to donate a wheelchair and could send it directly to the provincial health office in Xienkhouang, its better then we'll just advise the staff to deliver it to the kid. For the second child, I need to coordinate further as the child lives very far from the provincial center, very remote area and rough road. She may need budget for transportation. Since we will only ask her a favor, I dont expect her to make an out of pocket expense to travel because she herself is not earning that much.
Please email me at dequirozm@yahoo.com for any query. I'll give you the contact information. Note that Im not in Laos so cant personally facilitate. Thanks!
You are such awonderful person! Thank you I already read your email and will make a reply soon. THis really gets the ball rolling. Khob jai lai lai for support!
It will be very useful if you give us his name and address( name of village, name of city) or phone number of lacal official who can cotact him.
Okey I already got the name of the second child, the one with infected wounds. He is Khampheu, 14 years old, living at Phonthom Village, Thathom District, Xiengkhouang. The first child, lame boy, I still working to locate him.... please see other topic you might be able to help me trace him. I cannot give his name only the name of child who is his neighbor because she is the original purpose of our visit. I just saw the lame boy on the way out of the village after we finished our visit with the other child.
I will keep everyone posted. Anyone who is willing to help please send message to my email. In case you are in Laos and would like to help the boys directly, that would be great and very fine with me. But in anyway, please do inform me.
Wow this is like a puzzle that is finally solved. I apologize for my rusted memory (but Im still young, dont get me wrong.. ha ha ha). Now I manage to recall where I found those kids. I repeatedly say to myself the name of the 2 villages on the sign and I reckon that the way the village names were pronounced was very nasal and its like the "th" is eaten. So Im now positive that their residences are:
boy #1 - paralyzed with callused knee name: Unknown but has a little girl neighbor named Cai or Kai. Village: Ban Nathong District: Kham Province: Xiengkhouang
boy #2 - paralyzed and has several infected bed sores (wounds) name: Khampheu Village: Ban Phonthom District: Thathom Province: Xiengkhouang Age: 14 years old
Village Name
OR
District
NaOung
Nathong
Kham
PhoneHom
Phonthom
Thathom
The only thing left is the name of the lady health worker who was with me during the field visits. She will make it easier to trace exact location of the kids. But I will also post photos of the villages and the houses where they live to facilitate faster tracing.
There is also a trusted NGO that already expressed willingness to facilitate the donation and details will be posted as soon as plan is clear with me. So far only 5 people have made pledges/ assistance: 2 monetary (total $60 so far which is insufficient), 1 medical supplies, 1 to assist possible treatment, 1 assisting coordination. They are all great!
I hope more will come forward to help. Again please feel free to email me for any query or offer of help. I know people would prefer to be anonymous and I respect that.
Hmm anymore response from people interested to help?
hey my mom in oudome xay now, not know when she will be in xieng khuang.
The name of the lady is Mrs. Somsanith, Provincial Surveillance staff of Xiengkhouang. She knows where to find the boy. If you like to send help directly, through your mom, please contact her directly so she can show the way. Thatom is very far though I hope she will have no problem traveling. Thank you!
You can contact Thao Sengouthone, The souperviser of Lao Disable People Association of Xienkhouang District. He can take your love heart to this boy.
Phone # 020-566 1075
Thank you for sharing this. I'll keep it in mind. Currently were communicating with COPE Laos, and agency that provides prosthesis to UXO victims. Though, the lameboy is not a victim, they pledge to support to be able to provide an equipment for the kid.
Thathom area is right at the edge of XK province near Bolikhamxay province, roughly 100km from Phonsavanh. don't know how bad the road to Thathom can be during rainy season.
the sores will take months to heal, provided sacral bone hasn't been affected, if it is, will be more complicated.
transferring him to hospital means someone from his family must go along to take care of him 24/7 = one less person to work at home/harvest rice/etc (potential loss of family income) + 2 people's expenses for food in town.
still waiting for reply from doctor friend who has more experience with such sores...common in bedridden elderly.
btw Ganda you can just email me directly. always check my email even though don't always have time to reply immediately. otherwise people on this forum will wonder why you're meowing for a cat to respond :P

Yup my dear furry cat, I thought about that too, that is why Im thinking to direct all monetary donation (however little it is) instead to him since COPE can provide already what I ask for the lame boy. Im just waiting for one more email then I can go.
I doubt if our dear brothers and sisters here mind me meowing to you once in a while, for a change. Its my way of letting them know that despite my long silence, something is going on in the background. Im really serious in helping those kids and I hope these guys here will contribute.
Take care Strycat and please dont stray too much, Ganda here does not want to miss you!

Just thinking out loud, wouldn't it be nice to have a business in Laos. Some of the profits will go toward helping these kids. That the help will never stop pouring in for these people?

I think its a good thing to do Kaniaow. Im not so familiar with how this things go in Laos, but in my country if you're a businessman (or even those who are not) you can create a foundation where a portion of your earnings go to it and the accumulated funds are used to help who ever is the beneficiary for whatevet purpose. For example, if the thrust is for education, it can be use to buy school supplies for students of certain target school, or use to buy text books, new tables, chairs etc for the school, of if bigh enough can be for the renovation. Then, if foundation is certified, it gets a certain percentage of tax exemption. I used to be an evaluator for qualifying foundations for such exemption. But maybe in Laos this wont work, but Im sure many are creative enough to find other ways to help. This is just my little contribution but as Ive mentioned earlier, I would be very happy if its Laos helping fellow Lao. This way you can show that Lao is capable of standing on your own feet, no matter how small they think are the efforts. It could be a good start, dont you think so?
Hi Cat! Hope you will hear my meowing. The boy with sore is actually closer and more accessible to reach if coming by car from the direction of VNT to Thathom than from Xiengkhouang proper. But im not too familiar with the roads in Laos since (1) I cant read Lao, (2) the driver and the lady cant speak english, and (3) Im always sleeping while on the road walking up only when when my friend will poke me to look at the nice view or when the roads gets too bumpy for me to continue my day dreaming. But from town proper of Xiengkhouang to Thathom district road is good then becomes more dusty and bumpy. Then once we reached the public market of Thathom district we only continued driving for a while then we had to leave the car because it could not fit into the narrow bridge that will bring you to the otehr side of the river and on the road going to Phontom Village. We hired a toktok (im not sure if this is right word) or that motorized vehicle that is qute noisy and usually used in the country side to deliver goods to town. From there the road becomes literally rocky and bumpy all the way to his house.
Its a poor village where many kids are out of school because they need to help in the field to get some food on the table. SO transportation will be costly, unless the road from VNT is taken instead. But if the lady is needed as guide, then there is no choice but to come to provincial office first.
I just want to let people who follow this thread to know that I got a message this afternoon from a Laotian who took extra mile to find out the status of the boys in Xiengkhouang in his/her desire to help. Below is an excerpt from the email message:
“I tried to contact Mr. Seng... in order to get information of the poor boy, khampheu. Through many channels I finally found that the boy passed away before I arrived Laos, around August ;(. It was so bad to hear the news, the guy named Sengt... tell me that there were some people from abroad helped them for the funeral ceremony. May he leave peacefully.”
It was a sad message but it made me feel grief and joy at the same time. Grief for learning that the boy did not make it; Joy for learning that those people who made their pledge really extended their help, including the sender of this message. My heartfelt condolences to Khampeus family and loved ones. My deepest gratitude to those people who help! Laos should be proud of you!
Watches are a beautiful thing. Certainly, they tell us the time - but aren't they so much more than that? replicas watches Through their watches, a person can express so much, and in a way it could be said:replicas watches Show me your watch and I'll tell you who you are.
I'm not an officer or a prime mover of this project. I just want to help my friend to spread the news of its existence and let its good deeds be known, especially among Laotian.
Just liking the page as a sign of support is sufficient. If you have the time and read on its wall you can find its small scale but life-changing accomplishments. If in anyway those previous activities inspired you to support/ donate... I'm sure it will be highly appreciated by the organizers.
PS @ Cat: this is the brainchild of project "Kurvi" the paralyzed boy whom you helped so that now he can move around.
