This claim doesn't seem credible to me . An 82 years old monk have sexual dire? why would he or any men waited at this age for sex? This sounds to me that Laos Christian is trying to stop the spreading of Buddhism practice in Lao community even the monk's has been found guilty .I know too well of how corrupted legal system can make an innocent person to confess for the crime that he/she didn't commit to. If the three girls kept their babies I'd like for them to show a non bias result of paternity test in court. If I'm not mistaken are those girls on the previous video before it was taken off from the web? If they're I'm surprised to see them actively coordinating the eviction. This process would be handle by authorities more less by victims if this took place in America.

That isn't necessarily true.

There are plenty of people who've immigrated to other countries for over 20 years without knowing much about their new 'home'. As a monk, i'm he is more concerned with spreading the teachings rather than adapting another country's system of legislation. Given his age, it's certain that he is far less familiar with Australia's legal system than he is with Laotian legalities.

Pending the results of the patenity test (if it exists), it's wrong for all of you to jump on the bus and chastise the monk. If you're all so educated, what ever happened to "innocent until proven guilty?"

2. She isn't completely closing out the possibility of the monk being guilty either, she's just more skeptical of the validity of these claims because in at first glance, they are a tad incredible.

The guilty verdict was already pronounced. He is just waiting to be sentenced and his attorney asked for some mercy. Read below please. I was born and raised in a Buddhist family, but to accuse Laotian Christian of trying to stop the spread of Buddhism is absurd. I am fully aware of Christian sects go around to preach about their God and it really turns me off, but this is a serious crime by having sex with a minor and it’s not just monks, also Catholic priests.

When your defense attorney sees all the evidence, it’s not abnormal for him/her to advise you to plead guilty and throw yourself for the mercy of the court of law to avoid going to trial which can get you a maximum penalty. The defense attorney would bargain for you and if you have good reputation in the community, it would be easy to bargain with district attorney.

Monks have been prosecuted around the globe for engaging in illegal sexual acts some even sell drugs.

Monks in the old days were not prone to commit sinful acts especially those who lived in countryside. They had no access to cable TV, Cell Phone, Internet or any sorts of entertainment. BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thai officials urged Buddhist monks on Tuesday to avoid using social networking Web sites to woo women after an advocacy group found some monks were doing just that.

The request came as police in the northeast detained a monk accused of using a Web site to lure a woman to his temple and raping her.

"I call on Hi5 users to tell the monks to leave the site if they are found using it," junior minister Jakrapob Penkair told reporters after a Buddhist monitoring group said some monks were flirting on the Web site popular with Thai users.

Reports of monks caught using or selling drugs or having consensual sex with women are not uncommon in the Thai media, which reported on Tuesday a 23-year-old monk was caught raping a teenager he lured to his room through the Web site.

A senior Culture Ministry official said monks should not be banned from the cyberspace, but should turn this "crisis" into "opportunity" by bringing Buddha's teaching to the young.

"Instead of using the Net to flirt with young girls, monks should find ways to preach Dharma and lead them in the right direction," said Ladda Thangsupachai, head of the Cultural Surveillance Centre.

Three young women fell pregnant to a Buddhist monk, 82, who abused them while acting as their spiritual adviser, a Melbourne court has heard.
Ajarn Manivong used his reputation as a healer and Buddhism teacher to induce five victims, aged 13 to 24, to engage in various sexual acts with him, the County Court was told.
Three of the victims became pregnant as a result of his offences, which took place between 1998 and 2001, the prosecution said.
Prosecutor George Slim said two of the girls had abortions but the third discovered her pregnancy too late and had the baby.
The court was told the victims met Manivong through their involvement in their local Buddhist community, where he was well regarded as a healer, clairvoyant, and spiritual guide.

The monk had told his victims they had health problems that he could fix as a way of conning them into sexual activity, the court was told. In at least one instance, the prosecutor said, he had made this suggestion to a girl while her family was elsewhere in his house.
Manivong committed the most recent of the sexual offences against a woman, 24, last year, while on bail for his earlier crimes, according to the prosecutor.
He was originally charged with 45 counts, including rape and sexual penetration of a child. He has instead pleaded guilty to five counts of procuring sex by fraudulent means, which carries a lesser maximum penalty of five years' jail.
"Normally you would say that with an 80-year-old man, his libido would be at least blunted, if not obliterated, by that stage, but that might not be the case with this man," Judge Leslie Ross commented yesterday during Manivong's plea hearing.
Defence barrister John Saunders conceded that his client's conduct was reprehensible and involved a serious breach of trust. However, he argued that Manivong - who had explained his offending as "a moment of weakness" - lived an otherwise exemplary life.
At the age of 10, the court heard, he became the pupil of an older monk, and for the next 35 years lived almost as a hermit, practising Buddhism in the caves and forests of Laos.
Since arriving in Australia in 1981 he had developed a high standing in the Buddhist community.
He argued that Manivong's crimes were at "the lower end of the scale" and in view of his age and previous reputation, urged the judge to consider imposing a sentence that did not involve an immediate jail term.
The Crown did not dispute this submission.
