Thai music in Lao society!

What's up ? I'm Laotian. I'm a student. I want to have
a poll of opinion from you. Could you please indicate why in Laos it's likely that Laotians are not permitted
and suggested singing Thai songs. for instance, a teacher sometimes punishes someone who is late for class by getting them to sing a song. Any international songs are deemed as acceptable, except Thai songs. With this thing, i can make nothing of it. What do you think about this?

Please do not hesitate to give me your free opinion.

History taught us about Thai people, what siamese did to us in the past and what the Thai government did to Communist Laos during the secret war in Laos ( vietnam war). after the pathetlao take over and found Lao Pdr in 2/12/1975.  Thai issue  is still very sensitive in Laos. but the gov can't act anything against thailand, because we can't live without thai products and others.
Presently, Although the relationship between Laos and Thailand are getting deeper and deeper, the Laos government is concerned about the Lao culure and social problems which thailand influences Laos a lot these years.
However, i think the Government just want to protect our culture. because Laos and thailand are so close. sometimes it;s good idea, but sometimes we can accept the reality.

I don't support any Lao students to sing thai song in school ,because it is like you don't love you country and people, it is like you don't respect your accestor who were killed by thai in the WAR.

You are allowed to sing Thai songs only in a toilet, not a public furious

Even we are not allowed to sing or play thai songs on the radio, tv or at school,
but the majority of Lao people are already gone wierd with thai songs

It is waste of time to promote thai songs in Laos, because Laos already absorb thai music through thai tv channels and radios

Go ahead and sing Thai songs but sing them in Lao.  If that happens, then Thais will really accuse Laos of stealing their culture.

I'm Laotian. I do not know about Thai and their medias , but I have some knowledge abut an unfavorable past history between Thailand and my Mother Land. In my opinion, I think many Laotians are still reminded of their past history do to the fact that to this day, Thai people are still considered Laotians are second class citizens and they hold no value for us.

Since Thailand is our neighboring country and also share the same faith of Buddha's teaching. It is good for Lao to make peace with Thai people , but just don't idolize them.

Really? I never heard of that? I'm still watching Thai TV, Chanel V Thailand or Thai Pop Radio and I'm still buying Thai fashionable clothes & stuffs. Someday I also eating Mama Tom Yum Koong fr my supper

My opinion is just about if the school is trying to stop their student singing Thai song or singing Thai songs are prohibited in the country then we better just denied Thailand not to built the Bridge crossing to Lao and shut off the border. That'as it!

Where is the freedom in the country if we stop people to sing other foreign song such like Thai songs?

Today Thai medias has arriving to Lao so fast and teenage can abosrb so quick about Thai Pop culture

I believe that in Thai society also headache with their children as well as their teen are following Korean or Japanese Pop cultures

Same thing...

To Lavender

If you live in Lao you wont say like that. Today if many of Lao people still hate Thailand as in the past we was under their colonial. Since your parent who escape from Lao comunist party. Which country your parents go for help?

China, Cambodia, Vietnam or Thailand? Ofcos Thailand is the first countr to help your parents to escaped to the 3rd world country.

Lao Nai, we like everything about Thailand that's why so popular
Lao Nok, they hate Thai as since they leave the country they also brought the old sad story with them.

Now everything change.

I believe that if Lao making or creating the best song which  has our own identity and promote accross the country. If it is better than Thailand or Korean then Lao teen will come back to be the Lao Pop Disciples

The way of the teacher trying to do is wrong way. It's not to way to solve the problem in the freedom world

Teen age, if you try to stop them....They will jump over to do in the way you trying to stop them.

Please read my comment again. I do not hate Thai , because I don't know much about Thai , so it's kind a hard to hate or like the people that I hardly knew. The only sad story that my dad and I took with us when we left Lao was, the memory of seeing innocent lives were taken by a ruthless leader of dictatorship. I do not wish to speak of this subject , because this will separate Lao even more as  I still love and proud of my Lao root.

biggrin Simple because Laos don't have any free speech, I mean there is no free speech in any country that run by communist party.  Here in America we have our right of speech, we can sing any song in any language.

That's why we called our country'' The United State of America,'' and America is melting pot. Yes!! we do promoted a native culture but not as big as the people from the Europeans and Eastern europ.

Music is international language .
You can't prohibit peoples to listen song that they want to listen.
If you go to Laungprabang or Veingchan, you can't deny to hear Thai song(pop, country(luk tung),rock,R&B).

knowing many languages is great for your advantage, that's how you can become a smart person.  I can't see why you can't listen to thai or the countries music.  There is always a demand to speak different languages, for instant, I can speak Thai very well, when I go to visit Thailand, they think that I am Thai.  Thai people in Bangkok look down on Lao people, including Esan people, they have a phase "Ngoor mieun Lao" means dumb like Lao, we can speak their language but when we ask them if they can speak Lao? they can't speak Lao.  Now who is dumb? I wonder.

You get my point?

You're one troubled soul. You need to go see a shrink and a Buddhist monk .

I don't think you have Lao blood in you at all. Other wise this issue wouldn't have troubled you this much. Let me ask you this, both of my parents are Laotians and my great grand father name is Nouhuck phoumsavanh, don't think I have enough Lao blood in me? to be Laotion?

I just want to say Lavander is not a bad person. She's very reasonable in fact and she is just stating her musical preferences, and was very clear on that. It was you who kept on pressing the issue. You are so hardsell on Thai music.. putting yourself and your nationality questionable to the readers. I think she respect your preferences so might as well you respect others.

Peace!

She is not a bad person, but judging other culture the way she is, I don't know what to think. no.gif Also her great grandfather, he must be very big and are we supposed to say Wow! yawn.gif

It's ashamed that her mother land is embracing the Thai culture, most watch Thai TV, listen to Thai music, and Thai products are everywhere in Laos now a day, and if she were to see it with her own two eyes, she might cry all the way back home. Ignorance of other culture in this case is not a bliss my dear. smile.gif

I don't like Thais and there ignorent society sorry I can't stand them because they never have time to learn or see us laotian in a another perpective. There for I don't see them nothing but lost idenity and corruption in every aspect in SouthEast asia. To make this a more clear I dislike those ones that are ignorent and rude selfish breed. When I hear many stories and news about my laotian people being look down it just make me piss off and also make me wanting to look down at them lower then a dog! I have no repect for your society or your culture and one thing that set Laos from Thailand is we are different don't ever societ us with Thailand accept those Esan I respect. Yes I am from USA, but still Thais society haven't changed much from many generation and I don't think laotian going to forget what thais have done in the past until they can deny what they hide!

I strongly disagreed with you kid! this teacher did a Excellent job! of teaching his/her student not to idolize those who try to degrade you and your race. If this ignorant student have sung other nationality's song, the teacher wouldn't have punished he/she, and that should be a good learning lesson for the student.

Please dont make a lot of fuss about this issue. Lavander has been exposed to different types of music growing up in a place where there is so much diversity in terms of culture and beliefs. That widened here preference in terms of music. her benchmark for a quality music is different having been exposed to a variety of musical styles and performances. I dont think she meant to offend you, she is merely stating her preference. I dont find anything wrong with that.

Remember she still said she loves Lao music which in some way or another have some similarities to Thai music and you cant blame her because she's pure-blood Laotian and never denied of her roots. You're probably Thai and strongly prefered Thai music which you have been exposed since you were a child.  I suggest you try listening to music from other countries, you will probably appreciate some of their music too.

Dont limit yourself, expand your horizons. there are still a lot of things to discover outthere.

Lavander dear, dont take it personally. Keep your cool and smile always, that'll make the youth in you last longer. winkaww

Keep your cool and smile always, that'll make the youth in you last longer. winkaww

Opp! Lavender porm toe maa.

You saying she admire herself?

Re: opp! Lavender porm toe maa and You're saying she admire herself?

You don't represent Thai people in a nice way with the way you behaved.

You behaved like ( MARA ) who is an EVIL person in Buddha's history .

Mara disguise herself in many forms is her way of trying to sabotage Buddha from

his meditation of reaching an enlightenment .  In your case, you behave like a

pushy drug dealer who can't take NO! for an answer. Through my observation

Lavender's comments has her picture next to it , unlike you who's still hide your

identity behind  ANONYMOUS. Try a different trick , Lao people are smarter than you

think.
