Many people think Laos should compete with Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand. They need to stop that. Laos will never be like them. Laos need to find a niche market. 1. Strengthen farming supported by microfinancing and development of better irrigation system.
2. promotion of eco-friendly tourism. capitalize on Laos natural landscape and beauty that will  provide some sustainable livelihood for local (face it you cannot educate all people in Laos, Those in the remote areas will still have difficult access to high quality education. But at least educate them the basics, enough to help them have a decent life.
3. improve marketing strategy to promote traditional Lao silk, westeners are enticed with such handicrafts. Discover different ways of using them and improve packaging to make it exceptionally appealing.
4. Explore on production of electronic parts as mentioned above. Cheap labor will be an advantage to shift production site to Laos. one country used to be number 1 in garments production, but when Vietnam and Cambodia opened up with cheap labor, the factories moved to these countries. Then when China opened with cheaper labor, factories started to sprout like mushrooms in China. Laos should open too and start negotiation with potential investors to open factories (but have readypolicy that will protect environment and nature).

Thats what I can think of for now. But there are still a lot of options out there. You just need to discover them.

Maybe you can start by analyzing the competitive advantage of Laos. what your neighbors have that you do not have? What you have that your neighbors do not have?

huge flat rock there is a small river. I suggest next time
you visit Laos you should go and see this place which
hasn't never been in Lao Tourist promotion at all.

I mean we order material from outside and put it together.
Such as Beer Lao factory, all the material is imported.
I think, we should have complete circle factory using

If i have the Authority to develop and Invest for Laos, First of all, i  would demolish some of the current constitutions . Second, i will heavily Invest in Education, For Laos to prosper, Education must adpt. This is not the first time i'm talking about reform an Education in Laos, i was mentioning many times already in this Website. we need to train today's students for tomorrow's jobs. From preschool to high school and to our public universities, Lao must deman more for it's investment in education by strengthening the curriculum and graduation requirements for all students making certain they enter the workforce with professional and technical skills they need. also local business and industry association need to get involve and open the doors, partnership between the public and private sectors. a parents, Teachers and communities,business and non profits, every segment of our society coming together to ensure our progress.   That is common sense and the reason why there are not too many investors to build factories in Laos because
  Laos does not have the skill workers to do the jobs. Most of the foreign companies in Laos don't hire Lao workers
  and train Lao workers for jobs. So the government should train the Lao people that is part of the investment for
 future .Laos need to become industrial country . Hydro power dams , timbers, mines and casinos and agriculture are also good but not enough jobs for Lao people to get out of poverty. There are a lot of good and wonderful idea but could not start without education and training the Lao people for tomorrow.Lao government spend so little money of their

So please do us a favor and tell us how many Lao-American billionaire are there? Better yet, what is the poverty rates for Lao-American in comparison to other Asian-American?
