The Akha also make similar. I like them because you can see what's inside, kind of like a mesh bag. I bought a couple at that tiny handicrafts market next to the big post office in Vieniane, also at a now closed store set up by the local government in a Muang up north.
I like to buy handicrafts as it shows that I value the arts produced by the local culture.
