Laos' Deputy Prime Minister Somsavat Lengsavad says that there will be no compensation for intruders and illegal occupiers of state land in the That Luang marsh area, and their structures or buildings will be removed from the area to clear the way for a Chinese investment group to take over

That is sad news!!!!  So typical of high ranking officials to worked out some deals without any concern to the people.  I'm sure if his family properties are within those ThatLuang Marsh Land, he will be singing different tune.  So those folks will be homeless??

I'm pretty sure some high ranking officials are getting rich off these deals.

These are illegal occupiers and intruders. Why would they give compensation to somebody when it wasn't theirs to begin with? If that was the case, everyone would flock to the land to get free money.

not fair.  But to me it seems liked it bother the laotians
who lived abroad a lot more then those who lived
inside the country.  By the way...has anyone know
or witness the laos citizens took it the street to
protest againt the action of the government?.  If yes...
please let me know I'd appreciated.

Look yourself in the mirror first. Human migration is nothing new. Obviously yourself are an immigrant.

Lao PDR is now open to the world and has embrace the globalization. In the era of globalization, there are no room for Xenophobia and bigotry.

It's easy to push around poor ordinary Lao but when it comes to Chinese and Vietnamese it's beyond Lao government's reach.

Are those people offered specific relocation area with potential source of income?

I read there is a mention of asking them to relocate but the mechanism isnt clear.
probably if they will be provided with assistance and offered a decent place to relocate they will not complain that much and accept the low monetary compensation.

I wonder what the authorities consider intruders? Since the government themselves lack the proper procedures to provides its citizen to land owner ship to begin with. In most cases land ownership in Laos is often a verbal agreement between individuals. Or land handed down from parents or relatives and is a given acknowledge between by the village or town. All this intruders and illegal nonsense sounds like away of just pocketing the money themselves. I though the authorities are fighting corruption?
