I have ;live in Vientiane for almost 2 years now.I love this country. recently. I notice that some people resort to burning or inceneration of their garbages. This make the air smell of burning plastic which permates from morning till evening. I hope residents in this city will learn the bad effects of this manner of disposal to the environment and to to everyone;s health. Thank yoy,

My friend.... I know what you mean, & I feel bad 4u to be in that situation.  Even me born in Laos, lived in the state, & have gone back to Laos twice a year, when it comes to getting used to the surrounding environment in Laos, it's very hard to absorb.  Yes.  the acrid smell of those burning plastics, tires, rubbers etc. are so intense.  Until Laos Gov. can come up with new rule & law of how to dispose the garbage, esp. people in the big city.  Perhaps, they already had established the law, but what good does that do w/out no body enforce it?

This issue is very relevant in view of the present problem of global warming. This is a very beautiful country and it is a pity since issues  like these is not supposed to be a big issue, if only the citizens are aware of the harmful effects to the environment and to everyone's health.

This is nothing, almost trivia comparing to our trash and burn method of farming.  If you travel through northern Laos you will notice mountains upon mountains with no trees and almost bold.  I think the Lao Government has made big strides by inviting and persuading our fellow hill tribes to settle in the low lands and stop this kind of farming method.  Of course mountain soils are thin and not fertile, you'll only 2-3 at best of growing crops then you'll move on for the next trash and burn.

Doesn't Vientiane Municipal provide rubbish collection service?  There's no need for people to burn them?

Just put the rubbish in the rubbish bin, and then place the bin in front of your house - voila! it's gone, Bob's your uncle.
