Rubber plant construction begins in Laos

VoV, 10 March 2010

The Vietnam-Laos Rubber Joint Stock Company broke ground for a rubber
latex processing plant in Champasak province on March 10.

The plant will be built on an area of 13 hectares in Pakse district at
a total cost of VND68 billion. It has a design capacity of churning
out 15,000 tonnes/year and is expected to be put into operation in
seven months’ time.

Champasak Vice Governor Somsanit Buttivong affirmed that the project
will help generate jobs, reduce poverty and boost local economic
development. He said the success of the project will not only
demonstrate effective cooperation between the company and Champasak
province but also contribute to strengthening friendship between the
two countries.

Established in late 2004, the Vietnam-Laos Rubber JS Company has
completed the planting of rubber trees on 10,000 ha in Laos two years
ahead of schedule. It plans to harvest latex at a 1,200ha farm this
year with an estimated volume of 10tonnes/ha.

The company has been awarded Vietnam’s Labour Order, third class, and
Laos’s Labour Order, first class. The Lao State also conferred its
Labour Order, second class, on Le Van Binh, chairman of the company
management board, and Ho Van Ngum, company director.
