(KPL) The Department of the Environment and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) held a discussion on switching off all the electricity generating machines during Earth Hour, a global campaign, in Vientiane on 12 March.
During this meeting the two parties decided that the electricity of the whole of Laos would be switched off for just one hour, from 19:00 hours to 20:00 hours on 27 March.
Dr Viengsavan Doungsavan, Director of the Department of Environment, who chaired this meeting, said Earth Hour in Vientiane would lead to saving 22 million kip and for the whole of Laos the saving would amount to 90 million kip, A ceremony to commemorate the commencement of this event would be held at Lanexang Avenue (Horkham-Pathouxay).

Care takers can use a candle, unless they are alone or not in better condition to use one. Of course ill persons dependent on ventilators and other critical facilities like hospitals, clinics, birthing centers, cold chain facililities are exempted. Its common sense.

Environmental challenges will not be solved by turning off our lights and Symboliclly hiding in the dark, we should be looking to technology and innovation to help solve environmental problems.
