I'm Laotian and I believe in Buddha for the following reasons:
Buddha said,
Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. Do not believe anything because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything because it is written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and the benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it.

No, I didn't meet with Buddha myself, but it made sense enough for me to know that it is his philosophy, because that is what he stands for.Plus, its not like he is imaginary like god, he was a real person who traveled to teach his philosophy, and there is proof he was a real person, that proof is called HISTORY. History tells us what he taught.

I myself find it very enlightened/helpful...its not the answer to your question but a statement that we all buddish followers are/should practice.

I believe in good and evil , right and wrong and science which could prove and I don't believe in the super natural power. I believe that our universe are make of the natural elements and also some elements we still don't discover and matter and also anti matter such as the black hole, dark matter, dark energy which the scientist still wonder . Beyond the big bang if there is a God so God still has God that is beyond the human being understanding. So I don't believe like the Christian holly bible and the Muslin koran believe that the God created the earth and the universe in 7 days and the earth is only 6000years old. I believe in Buddha teaching about how to deal with life, good and evil , right and wrong and to understand the law of nature.Buddhism meditation is the best mind therapy for human to find peace.

C'm on Brothers/Sisters, Why are we argues over the religions which one is better than the others ?? we are not a Arab or Midle-east countries that alway compete with each other that mine is better than Your or Your is better than them....on and on.. To me, this is up to the Individual he/she want to believe ? we as lao don't really argues that much about this kindda thing... as for my self, when it' come the religion thing. i need to separate state and religion and make sure i'm not offense the other people either....

There's nothing for an individual stating his/her opinion and enclose the reason that help support it, there's no need to be anal about it all right.

There are more people killing each other over my God is better than your God for thousand of years. Some uses the name of God to get donation and become very rich and some uses the name of God to be in power and excuse to kill just like AL Qaeda(terrorists) suicide bombers...etc God is delusion . Some body just could not make the decision on their own and become the victim of the religious leaders.

That's because those people didn't learn well from the religion that have good principle by teaching the noble truth to its followers.

yeah, the majority of Lao people in Laos believe in Buddha, believe in their ghost there is a room for buddha in my house ( Hongpha )where my mom has to pray in every few days.

Some believe that God created the world and the universe in 7 days and the world is only 6000 years old. Some like Albert Einstein and Dr Stephen Hawking believed in particcle , atom, nuclear, electron, potron and quark. dark matter, dark energy and black hole .Solid. liquid, gas and plasma.
The religion of the future will be a cosmic religion. It should transcend personal God and avoid dogma and theology. Covering both the natural and the spiritual, it should be based on a religious sense arising from the experience of all things natural and spiritual as a meaningful unity. Buddhism answers this description.If there is any religion that could cope with modern scientific needs it would be Buddhism.
