They have been doing this way years and years....why do you think this is not good. I meant it is good that you have your own idea but, you should understand the 'tradition, custom' that have been passing on from generations. I think the way they are is the best and I am not sure that your idea will be impressed by others(?).
I agree.No harm in preserving traditions, identity and culture despite this era of high tech gadgetry and information technology. besides I bet that lady dont wear that everyday. Its a local beauty contest anyway, not an international one where woman will have to abide by international standards.

Speaking of " Flexible / resilient", there is nothing wrong to modify or improve things that have room for this kind of concern in order to be or look its best, even if it's a tradition that has been pass on to many generations!
